Quite right, British people have the effrontery to want to spend time with their families and have a social life, which is terribly inconsiderate when the boss can make more money from people willing to work 80 hours a week.

quite right harry and get canned for refusing to go to Aberdeen on a Friday afternoon, don’t want to work weekends cos the kids are at school all week the wife is in a full time Monday to Fri job then firms EXPECT them to work Thur to Mon shifts and be grateful.
im sick of the eastern europeans working here, they are alright cleaning bogs or picking veg in fields, but driving lorries they can ■■■■ off. it wouldnt be so bad if every other lorry on the road wasnt a eastern european but they are bloody everywhere.

I worked with a czech guy who wouldn’t spend his night out money, he just lived on sandwiches, everything was as cheap as possible so he could live well when he moved back to czech. I happen to think he was a really nice bloke, but he was milking the system for everything he could get. He did work hard, but no harder than the English guys. Thats the difference with Brits, we don’t have anywhere else to go. I know plenty of hard working brit people who struggle to get work because they want a real living wage, and some kind of a life - not that much to ask is it?

Same thing in the mini cab world.
Turkish drivers work 7x12hr shifts and live of a bag of rice a week, just so they can send money home, a pound over here is worth a fiver over there.
The turkish drivers used to show me pictures of there houses in turkey and they were mansions!!.
They were here to make as much as possible and the return to turkey.
I don’t blame them, I blame the system.

Did drivers not accept lump sums to change rates and conditions at a lot of big companies before the poles where allowed to go anywhere.
Remember being told this when I first started after complaining that an extra £1 an hour was crap for a Sunday, or doing 50 hours before time and a half.
Things like that are practically the norm, don`t see how a builders spare time is any more important than mine

Not in my experience…Eastern Europeans are lazy, unkempt and unsociable.
I go into many places that employ these vagrant transients and without exception, they are useless.
I also worked amongst them(but not for very long, as I had identified the damage done) and saw nothing other, than the lowering of standards, a fleet that was badly looked after, abused and generally the whole operation had gone down to their level
I now work for an operation that employs none of these wasters and it is a happy place, with a good fleet and everyone seems happy…Including me!

Read John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath”, about failing 1930s Oklahoma sharecroppers fleeing towards California in the pursuit of a better life that simply isn’t there, constantly forcing downwards the wages of those already there to subsistence levels, that is a parallel of what is happening today.
In addition, the huge increase in population has pushed the cost of housing, whether mortgaged or rented beyond any reasonable level.
Just going back to the 1970s, if you were an HGV driver, you would live in a four bedroom semi in a nice part of town and have a near-new car on the drive.
I don’t know how any sane person could support the mass immigration policies of the last 15 years or so, or give any reason whatsoever as to how it has benefited them, turkeys voting for Christmas comes to mind.

Do you not think that the real problem might just lie closer to home?
They work for the same money but in most cases live very frugally themselves in conditions most western drivers wouldn’t put up with and all this to give their family back home a better standard of living. And as for the eastern European transport companies doing business in the Uk, I would blame the system here that actually stacks the odds against transport companies rather than facilitating them to expand into Europe at competitive rates, the other issue is the cost of living here.
So really when we think about it, it has sweet fa to do with them.

Yes, but Canada permits strictly controlled immigration for those vetted and who will be a productive member of society, they don’t welcome Somalian pirates, thieving Romanian ■■■■■■, Albanian gangsters or Iranian bombers with open arms as the UK does whenever they can smuggle themselves into Dover.

totally agree with you have to blame the system!! you can,t blame someone trying to better themselves and if this includes going to another country then so be it… but i do agree that things need to be tightened upon our borders and folk coming into the country need to be reduced and those accepted should have the skills that are needed, and no benefits should be given for a certain time 2years or more maybe?
the one thing that does bother me though is when applying for jobs 10 year checkable work history CV ect, yet alot of foreign workers don,t have this yet get taken on, a little unlevel playing ground?
a mates sister runs a consultancy co working with major hotels, she reckons if all (ILLEGAL) foreign labour is withdrawn overnight the whole hotel/restaurant trade in London would shut down immediately.
