English work

How would any Welshman know that the man standing next to him was English ■■?. In many parts of Wales the IGNORANT locals start talking gibberish as soon as a stranger appears some welcome in the hillsides that is…

If only I was given a tenner every time I hear that myth. Let me help you to dispel it.

It usually goes…‘I walked into a pub. As soon as I appeared…they started talking gibberish/Welsh’. Ask your self…how does the stranger know what language was being spoken before he made his entrance? Why would the English stranger upon hearing Welsh being spoken, immediately believe that the subject of the converstion is him/her or the yokels swithch languages because of his or her presence?

I’m going to stop now…what’s the point? :unamused:

It is the same feeling that you get when you walk into a kebab shop, you know the bloke under the tea towel is talking about you :stuck_out_tongue:

BuzzardBoy:
How many of us actually voted last time round??

I didnt vote last time round, for whatever the reason. Yes the Foreigners ■■■■ me right off, but then i didnt vote, so do i really have a right to whinge and moan about them??

No you don’t. So top whingeing and next time there is an election…make your way to the voting booth and put your cross next to whoever you want elected. I know that’s a big ask for you and great swathes of the UK electorate…but really it isn’t that difficult.

Mrs thatchers crowd done a good job?

:open_mouth: I disagree :exclamation: I was born and bred in this country. :sunglasses: This fact gives me carte blanche to “whinge” about whatever I like, regardless of who I voted for or whether I voted at all. :open_mouth: I’ve had that old chestnut rammed down my throat every time the topic of voting rears it’s ugly head by people that share you’re opinion. That is the key word - OPINION. I could go into a fully blown diatribe about the reality of who really pulls the strings above those with the red, blue, yellow or green flags but I think we’re probably a wee bit off thread.

What you are saying is that it’s your RIGHT to whinge even though you didn’t excericise your right to vote. How very British!

ROADRATY:

Yep 2 reccesions, the fuel duty esculator and sky high Truck VED really helped haulage.

I had a feeling you’d like that one Ader1. Basically, YES!

And fyi, I’m think of myself as English more than British.

Just quickly, for you, this “apathy” towards voting that has infected the majority of the UK is, imho, sod all to do with laziness on the part of said population.
I believe that it’s slowy dawning on people that we live in a corrupt one party state. That being the case why take part in the subterfuge of choice.

Tin hat on etc…

No need for the tin hat…I agree with you to a degree…but those governing are allowed to be corrupt because we the population are too busy concerning ourselves with the back-pages of our ‘newspapers’ or should I say comics for that is what many of them are and/or the lives of the rich and famous. Somebody once said that we get the politicians we deserve…I agree with that statement too. I do however believe that in future, we will be taking quite a bit more interest in politics than in the recent past.

Like you Goaty, I don’t feel too British either but it’s a usefull term when talking about things related to our political system which still has a British dimension.

Not myth mate I have been there on more than one occasion where they have spoken welsh all the time I have sat there when the numbers in there have dropped to me and the one remaining local all of a sudden they start talking English and want to be your mate for the night.

So, you are telling me that there are people who speak amongst each other in a language other than English! And then at some point, one will switch to speaking English to you since you don’t seem to be able to speak Welsh. It isn’t quite the same as what was being spouted earlier and which I labelled ‘a myth’. What you have written is truly unbelievable.

I cant believe what im reading on this post....its funny how when everythings going great..no one says anything...when it goes ■■■■ up...they moan like little women...about the foreigners....but i suppose theyre the same people who went/go to Holland/Belgium/France/Germany etc...Oh well, thats ok then.... Moaning about foreignerswho work for certain companies, and stopping them from working...then why the [zb] didnt you want to work for the said companies in the first place....Its funny how people will work for companies when theyre desperate, that they wouldnt normally touch with a barge pole. Where are all theEnglishpeople to work on the farms, in the fields, in pouring rain and minus degree temperatures, that theforeigners now do. Who runs our transport systems...foreignersor descendants of immigrants, and in London, these so called immigrants were brought here specifically to work on our transport system, often cramped in one room, and shabby houses, jobs the english would not get out of bed for. I have worked for many companies, have travelled extensively, and met manyforeignerswho have shown me such courtesy, and manners, who work hard, and are a credit to this profession, far more than many of our english compatriots. At the end of the day they are no different to us, merely looking to better themselves. If you want to complain about these people, then may i suggest you look elsewhere to vent your anger, for it is not the fault of theforeigner` that we find ourselves in this mess…the government is partly to blame for not restricting the numbers, for not introducing road charges, for not making a level playing field, but above all…we only have ourselves to blame for not joining together, and fighting the real causes of the demise of our industry.

Well said

well just think how off we will be in the new year when we are trying to claim the dole and them foreign whatever you wanna call them are working,

( language edit ) jd

The only difference i found whilst working with Eastern Europeans is

1) I refuesed to take out a wagon because the warning light was on, the siren kept coming on with a brake warning light, was told to ignore it , it gives a false reading.

i refused to drive it because
a) the alarm would drive me nuts,
b) the brake pressure reads zero , even if its broken how would i tell the pressure

Solution = the polish guy took my load , and i took his wagon :open_mouth:

2) There are no longer shift alloweance or extra money for working Saturdays , you get £6.75 for every hour worked, i no longer do overtime now.

The poles still do overtime at £6.75 p/h
of course the employer loves it , but how can we create better working conditions for ourselves if the Poles wish to keep us at our current level.

Our grandparents fought for better working conditions for us,
surely we should be fighting for better conditions for our childrens future.
And keep asking for better hours and work conditions not because were lazy but because we should strive for a better future ?

3 All our trunking jobs were given to the poles to make it simple for them, going to RDC,s etc…
And all the “old boys” now do all the multi drop , multi product deliveries

Excactly the same situation but opposite: scottish driver took the lorry what I refused to take becouse of brake warning light and buzzer (it was a mercedes). Ergo: it has nothing to do with nationality. :

(btw: argumentation of TM was great, as this guy just passed his class 2 and he was driving a sprinter vans only before "if he want’s to drive a lorry for our company, he has to learn how to drive vehicles which aren’t in perfect condition :exclamation:)

Our grandparents fought for better working conditions for us,

Our grandparents also fought for better live for you

I was talking about creating safer working conditions,
getting us at least 1 day off a week,
getting us a shorter working week
getting us better pay.

Not fighting the bloody jerry,s :unamused:

If the Turks ever come over we might end up ,
having 1 day of a month , and working for the priveledge of having a roof over our heads :unamused:

and idiots will defend them and say
“i know but they work hard” :unamused:

Give us a break , help us build a better europe and not shaft us for £6.00 ph

I totally agree. Until this crisis situation I used to do not touch nothing for less than 7.50 p/h. And then if they prefered me over some Brit, who expected the same wage, I can’t feel guilty at all. I was just propably better.

there should be no british workers out of work whilst them zb are here working, ■■ them all off and hopefully us lads can get back to work,

what will the new year bring on the work front,

Why do you think foreigners are getting work ahead of brits?

i have my ears and eyes open, u see name plates in british motors with mirek pawl udi pieter and the like it should be stopped now,
