is this another MMTM?

I would think that the employer is going to employ the best and most suitable person/people for the job, whether that be cheaper to employ or just simply a driver that doesn’t whinge.

If I was an employer and had 2 applicants I would choose the one that would give me a better return. I am buying his employment so I want value for money…give him a job and expect it to be done. If I suspected one would cause me grief ie. whinge and create me problems…which in turn costs me money - then the other gets the job! Regardless of his/her Nationality.

Everybody has a whinge now and again including me but some drivers really do abuse the privilege…I hear it regularly in poxy rdc waiting areas - I really think some people should appreciate they have a job in these current times and look after it because there is always someone waiting to replace you.

The Polish could do themselves a favour and try and integrate a bit more. I was at Tesco’s in Thurrock yesterday and had to listen to a few Polish drivers babbling on in Polish, for what seemed like hours. If both of them can speak English (which they should all be able to do, considering all the road signs are in English etc) then do everyone a favour and have your conversation in English. After all they are in England.

I approached a driver yesterday and said “hello”, to which the reply was, “No English, sorry”. The guy was driving a UK registered truck FFS. Get on a language course and learn then!!! :imp:

Lol. That’s just like working in Poland, picking up a polish registered truck and not knowing how to speak one word of polish. How could the employer even think of doing that?

Presumably if you and another driver from your firm went to Poland, you would talk to each other in Polish then?

Well said…we english are ignorant and pompous when it comes to languages…integrate■■?..like to see you have a conversation in Polish while waiting to be loaded in Poland…not that that will ever happen of course :open_mouth:

im getting a bit sick of all these polish threads :imp: :imp: :imp: they are here, you might not like and uneithical things might be happening but thats that there’s not alot we can do about it.

OK…

I have seen monumental wuckfittery on both sides but pure incompetent manouvering has been down to Poles whereas lack of common sense has been Brits. Maybe it’s because of the type of work I was doing at the time as fridge work seemed to attract more Polish drivers.

HOWEVER, you don’t notice the ones that don’t cause you a problem.

My take on it is that when a lot of Polish drivers started coming over, in Poland it was seen as a sector with a lot of work available in the UK so you got more drivers taking their tests to come over here and drive. In short, the reason why they were perceived as worse is that there was a disproportionately high number of newly qualified and inexperienced Polish drivers.

If we had the same number of people coming into the industry as the Poles have had, I would expect there’d be the same comments made. The fact is though that in the UK we have 5 times more people leaving every year than are even applying for provisional HGV licences. Out of those applicants, most go to HM Forces.

Mmmm…a bit of underlying racism there then. :unamused: :unamused:

As others have said - it would be interesting to see if you’d be prepared to converse in Polish if you were over there…

Fat chance!

i’ve driven in 13 different countries, i speak some french & some very bad english with a glaswegian accent,  stand next to me @ an RDC, & you’ll think to yourself i bleedin don’t understand a word this fellow’s sayin’ & just hope you larf @ the right bits!! :unamused:

Where the hell is the racism■■? It’s a valid point!! Hypocritical may be a more suitable word but NEVER racism

Has anyone not realised how many Poles perished in the World Wars,One and Two.Many served in the Reserve forces, and trained as pilots to fight in the war,for Britain. And were very good pilots. They have been in our communities for many years. In a recent article in a Bath newspaper, customers prefered Polish builders to Brits,as the Brits drank tea all day,and were more expensive, turned up late for work, and made a mess, while doing building work. That was quoted in the paper, and are not my comments.

Clearly you and the other guys have missed the point. What EnglishTrucker means is that the Polish drivers who LIVE and work here should be speaking English, I agree with what he says. If it was a Polish driver who was just doing an international trip, then thats fair enough for them to carry on speaking Polish, but if they live here then they should speak English. If I moved to Poland then I’d learn the language and try to speak it as often as I could, if I was just doing a trip over there then I’d carry on speaking English. As there aren’t many English people living in Poland, I’m sure ANDY1961 would learn the language if he moved over there!

Well the same could be said for both sides of the debate on these threads. the same old ground is covered, time and time again. :unamused:

Thats not exactly true. Tim doesn’t know (i presume|) because he’s new, but the rest of us know we’ve had these debates before and yes what Tim has mentioned has been brought up and recognised, i don’t think any sane minded individual could deny or fail to recognise our alliance with the Poles during world war two. However, several generations later and sixty years have passed since the war and we’ve all moved on. We (and the rest of the world) are in a financial crisis. You just have to make your mind up which side of the fence you are on, sometimes the fence is hard to spot. Especiaslly as the same people who have promoted integration and diversity are the same people allowing foreign companies to come qndwork here whilst shouting a british jobs for british workers ethic.

UK PLC…a unique retail opportunity for any modern retailers with a static (but slowly growing) poplulation of 65 million we can offer to any worldwide company a modern consumer based society with potentiasl for further footfall. Applications most welcome from the fresh air sector, as we struggle with our carbon emmisions we are seeking PFI partnerships to realise potential for growth for this area.
We have also siezed upon a unique oppurtunity, the water supplies that the country built themselves we have managed to con from them, and we can now offer strategically based foreign investors a heathy return from thier investments based upon the usage of such basic nessesaries. Invitations from any suppliers of cheap fossil fuels are most welcome as ours are to expensive to recaim given the excellent working conditions we have here due to the legislation we made for workers. Peerages we can offer on a good deal basis even to non UK nationals (see Daily Mail for details), and legislation for your chosen sector can be ammended (see Daily Mail again!)on a ‘pro rata’ basis. I.e. the more you “whet the appetite” the more legislation gets changed !!
All applications to be sent to Gordon Brown, C/O The Conservative Party, 10 Downing Street, London.
Lunch time applications preffered, (prefferably five courses or more) weekends abroad by special arrangement.

  • all above criteria based upon the fact we obtain services/labour from the cheapest source in the EU (and further afield) and charging out at a UK premium rate. Investments and returns are guaranteed so long as the BNP does not get into leadership and shake the boat

sorry, did not mean to post this, just in case someone who enjoys arguing more than working or anything else for that matter, comes along
