End of the T Cab

Scania have released a statement that the T cab will stop production by October 2005 due to falling sales :open_mouth:

Such a shame as it looks a fantastic truck out on the road, Never mind :unamused:

Some like em, some don’t

Is this a wind-up

From the horses mouth

Scania’s T-model says goodbye

Scania will soon put an end to a century-long design concept. Sales of the bonneted T-model have declined during the past 10 years and it is no longer defendable to continue developing and producing it. Production will be phased out by October 2005.

“The trend in all our markets is clearly in favour of forward-control trucks. Length regulations and productivity requirements on a competitive market have put an end to the market for bonneted trucks in most parts of the world. With the addition of more robust options in Scania’s new truck range, we provide forward-control trucks that can perform all types of transport tasks at least as efficiently as a bonneted counterpart,” says Group Vice President Gunnar Rustad, responsible for Scania Sales and Services worldwide.

“Globally, Scania sold less than 1,000 T-trucks in 2004 and this is what has tipped the scales. Volumes have halved in Europe and slumped by 90 percent in Latin America over the past decade. The T-model will be phased out globally by October this year,” concludes Gunnar Rustad.

What’s the public perception of a genuine truck? Asked to draw a truck, a child often intuitively draws a truck with a bonnet. But if you look on the roads, except for North America, such trucks are increasingly rare today.

ugly looking things any way

And to quote Scania’s latest press release today :

It is with regret that we are to cease all production at the end of 2005 due to the fact we have been incapable of building good trucks (unlike our number one competitors DAF, who have now taken the lead) since the end of the 3-series production a decade ago.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by this sudden and unexpected decision.

and look at that cab, it would be like driving in a sardine can.
and i go to work so i can get away from the wife and kids, but in that i would,nt

Thank God theyre stopping building em, bloody HORRIBLE looking things

I nearly fell off my chair when I scrolled down and that KW jumped out!

I’d love to see the gross on the KW, he could maybe haul an ounce before hitting his axle limits… :stuck_out_tongue:

Uckin Fugly trucks anyway.

What is the point sticking a great bulbous nose on them? You are only taking up load space.

A truck is built to move goods, the more goods it moves, the more money it can earn.

That great ugly lump at the front takes the space of 4 pallets

I like them but have got to agree in these days of high cabs and high cab floors the bonneted truck is a bit irrelevant (except aerodynamically of course).

But, in the old days when the alternative was living and working alongside a great oily, smelly, deafening lump, we yearned for laws that allowed conventionals. And, by the way, the only reason it takes up 4 pallet spaces is because European law, never considering the driver, puts a limit on overall length rather than the more sensible, load, i.e. trailer, length.

One more point, one reason the Yanks love them so much is that they are percieved to be safer in a front end shunt. Nice to have a great big shock absorber between you and the bloke in front.

Salut, David.
