End of the road for the Axor

My thoughts (I drive 4 wheel 61 plate 1840);

  • the windscreen isn’t big enough… No seriously, I’m 6’3", so when you pull down the sun visor, you can only see about 20 feet of road in front of you…

  • Steering is really twitchy. I don’t know if this is an issue with the front axle being narrow and the wheels constantly dropping into the grooves on motorways, but when I’m driving along a perfectly straight piece of motorway, I have to keep adjusting the wheel just to keep it in the carriageway.

  • Brakes seem a bit pants, if you do have to pull up sharply, you can get your foot almost to the floor before you start slowing down fast enough.

  • I can’t lie down straight on the bed without my head and feet touching the windows.

  • Gearbox is pants too. Pulling up the steep hill out of Porthmadog heading towards Caernarvon and mid way up it decides to jump from 5th to 9th. And promptly stalled… A guy a couple of weeks ago had one just randomly selected neutral on the same bit of hill.

  • Having a “supermarket trolley” spec one, means that it has every possible window, so blindside reversing is a lot easier.

  • Don’t know if its a “supermarket trolley” feature, but the turning circle on them is quite good.

  • Why bother speccing them with a slider, and then telling us that we’re not allowed to touch them.

  • Dash is ok, plenty of cubbyholes to put everything in, and they’re all within easy reach.

  • Apparently they’re 400hp, but they struggle with anything over about 29t, whereas the old Scania G400s that we had didn’t seem to be as bad.

Glad they’re going soon though…
