Card readers can be installed in terminals or screwed onto a wall where the keys etc are kept. No reason for card leaving your care.
A little planning and investment equals a smoother life for all.

Or maybe one of those battery powered hand held ones? That could be left for you to download your card. If the place us safe enough to leave YOUR card it’s safe enough for THEIR reader.

Yep my company leaves one of the hand held ones in tea room so we can down load our cards , to only time it’s not in there is if the fitter has it to down load a trucks head unit or it’s being downloaded or charged in office

ours are done from the R730 V8 scania.
Hit that button in a Scania (not the sunroof one) and it’s sends your data to the office, as long as they’ve left the wifi on
Setting aside any rights or wrongs of previous posts…
I’d like to know if the employer would be willing to re-emberse the OP for the inconvenience of loosing the card whilst in their possession?? This includes cost of the lost/replacement card itself, any liability for its misuse, and any lost income due to any delays acquiring a replacement card over and above the permitted manual entry period. If the employer is willing to accept that liability then crack on…If not then take it home

Only if they’ve subscribed to the service…

Our lot do. The Volvos can be done through dynafleet
Takes literally one minute to download your card, why they need to keep it for more than that I don’t know, have they said they will replace it if they lose it and pay the £30 fee?!

if i do get mashed to pulp theres some ID in the cab…
Well someones definitely a “glass half full” kinda guy!
I don’t understand the issue. The digicard is the drivers property, and the drivers responsibility. It should be kept secure by the driver. End of.
There is only one reason why the company would want to keep your digicard when your off. To stop you using it to work elsewhere, or go for a driving assessment for a potential new job. Either tell them to do one, or assume the position.
Do you have to bring your own lube?
Right lads, thank for the replies.
Regarding £19 lost fee. They paid last month to replace my lost card. This was totally my FAULT.
Looks like its not a problem legally.
Thanks again.
Are all us drivers not supposed to keep the digicard with them at all times? - By LAW?
I carry mine around with me even on my days off - when out in my car, as I do with my other driving-related stuff.
I heard you get a £50 fine for “not carrying your valid blue card”, so I would imagine there are similar penalties for even off-duty truckers for “not being in possession of their bits”…

Doesn`t look like. Only when diving a HGV.

I’ve heard of a few dodgy drivers who wear stockings an suspenders etc while driving, but I think wearing a wet suit, flippers, mask and aqualung may be taken by the biscuit

And that’s why the employer wants to get hold of the card when your off. Hang on, that sound familiar… Is there another situation where an employer keeps a vital legal document of a worker, to stop the worker from leaving?? Hmmmm
