This afternoon, M6, (around Forton/Lancaster I think) looked in my mirror saw 3 what I thought were red fire engines approaching me behind, being escorted by a van, all blues flashing.
Pulled into lane 1, when they got alongside me they were more like rigid box containers on the back, one open topped with a JCB,… anybody know what they were?
Just curious like .
Fire incident trucks I imagine, JCB for digging to find people stuck down holes when pot-holing etc, clearing up after a truck has a lie down, clearing up after house explosions etc. Incident command centre truck as well probably. Major incident trucks I would think at my best guess.
Do you mean a fire service truck with a hook lift container on the back? They carry various types of specialist equipment, with containers for different types incident, such as large pumps for dealing with flooding, search and rescue equipment, cutting gear etc.
Could be TNCSI en route to somewhere Rob

Not that dissimilar to Thunderbird 2 really, with different pods to deal with different types of incident.

Probably going to Penrith as there was a big flat fire today and the 2 storey front has collapsed also they haven’t found the man living there yet

probaby some anorak fell down a hole in the lake district and wants home before it gets dark.
bit like me but I’ve got orange lights not blue
There was some serious monies worth parked up in Tebay (N), a few days after last December’s floods. I’d say at least a couple of dozen of them. Many from way down South.
Wonder if they have them strategically placed around the country and share them around the brigades? If so presumably closest would be Preston? Not great in a major emergency unless they got much bigger engines than the average rigid…40mph up Shap M6 etc.
Doubt Carlisle, Cockermouth or Workington would have any of those and Penrith defo doesn’t despite its position and fancy new HQ.
Suspect Blue Estate is right although from what my parents neighbour told me yesterday, even Thinderbirds would have had a job recovering from that mess.
Strategic equipment reserve and the ability to commandeer stuff I never told you that
The identical unbadged MAN hook-lift trucks and the curtainsiders with Moffet fork lifts were bought by the government as part of the New Dimensions project.

The vehicles and equipment pods they carry are distributed around fire and rescue services in England and Wales and can be called upon by other areas when needed.
For example if there was flooding in one region then additional high volume pumping equipment could be brought in from elsewhere.

They’ve found His body
As for the speed it would be the same over the A34 roller coaster as well as my TGM 18t even empty only does 45mph at most on the biggest hill
Auto box Man’s have an additional setting in the gear selector for EMS uses. Ups the power, holds gear longer and changes quicker. So just a wee bit faster than your TGM.

I would love that enabled on my truck
Looks like they could be the Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) prime movers?

That’s not a million miles from the truth, if you grew up in the Sixties watching Thunderbirds on TV then years later you get a job in engineering making specialist rescue equipment then it must leave a lasting impression, Thunderbird 2 was wayyyyyyyy coolest
