anyone else nearly been run over by one of these save the planet electric cars due to the fact they are almost silent?
i nearly got my toes taken off yesterday by one of them as it passed me when i was about to cross the road.
surely someone has been splattered by one before now due to not being aware of its presence?Maybe you should ask deaf people how they manage to cross the road without getting run over.
Surely theyâd not hear the question?
Ask: âHOW DO YOU MANAGE TO CROSS THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING RUN OVERâ â ?â
I have been driving for almost 60 years now and when I was taught to drive I was always told to give due consideration to pedestrians, especially those that were either blind or deaf. These days it is easier to spot the them as they often have guide dogs (Or hearing dogs) and I always try and help if I can, even to the point of stopping and helping them to cross the road.
I wonder how many âOld Schoolâ drivers remember when this was the normal thing to do⌠More to the point, do you still do it?
Franglais:
David Prowse.
Did they even dub him there to get rid of his Bristolian Burr?
He was also demonstrating that one day all our jobs will be taken over by robots, as seen in this version so we wont have to go outside to get run over by electric cars.
Last year I was standing at the side door of my van making a brew at a services, nothing was parked alongside me. I stepped back straight into a Tesla that had arrived in the next bay without any noise! The driver laughed; âHappens all the timeâ he said but I didnât find it funny really as it might have been a young kid.
Pete.

Teaches you right, being engrossed in your phone whilst walking alongâŚ
I hope there will be a way to download your own audio file for the low speed pedestrian warning sound! I want âthe Jetsonâsâ spaceship sound for mine.

Yes.
Or fit a distance sensor to detect how far/near pedestrians are, and the Jaws motifâŚ

I am now using a prius as a taxi in a very busy tourist city, and have the problem of pedestrians just walking into the road in front of me on a daily basis, and nearly all of them have not looked to see whats coming down the road, the others are drunk people who just donât care if a car is coming because they all think they are indestructible after a couple of pints of fosters.
As things are now, where a pedestrian is nearly always in the right if they get run over or killed whilst crossing the road and the driver ends up with points or a spell in a cell at her majesties pleasure, I think itâs time to fit a dash cam (never been a fan in a truck, always to tempting to hit someone being stupid) to my car just so I donât get done for killing an idiot who didnât look before crossing.
Ive long since believed that if you change the rules and make the pedestrian responsible for if they get knocked down rather than the motorist then pedestrian incidents would be drastically reduced.
Much like with cyclists, when you place the entire onus of responsibility and blame onto one party it creates a culture of complacency
I run a hybrid car and low speed cruising on electric is a nightmare in town . Smartphone zombies and brain dead shoppers , if I have the temerity to toot the horn to warn them they glare as if Iâve just drowned their kitten . Wife says âmove you dozy sod âis not a nice response to the entitled public .
Not electric but way back when Lotus built their turbine F1 car the lack of noise as it approached was very scary .
I marshalled at Silverstone when it did some laps and to have it just appear at 140mph without the noise expected was very very disconcerting.
I also regularly had to go to the Tesla Service Centre in Acton London to deliver or collect battery units . It was strange watching cars move about and the only sound was the tyres moving over the painted floors .
BTW the battery packs are a hazardous load when being transported.
