Electric cars lack of noise

anyone else nearly been run over by one of these save the planet electric cars due to the fact they are almost silent?
i nearly got my toes taken off yesterday by one of them as it passed me when i was about to cross the road.
surely someone has been splattered by one before now due to not being aware of its presence?

I thought pure electric cars made some kind of little noise as a kind of warning to pedestrians.

It’s mobility scooters that get me, you only smell liniment & hear someone moaning about the cost of bread and bang, you are under the wheels. [emoji12]

surely if you look with your eyes before crossing that makes you aware of their presence?

Had one ‘surprise’ me when it overtook me when I was on my pushbike, I honestly had no idea he was behind me and he did pass closer than I liked.

its the lingering smell of stale pish and vic vapour rub that kills me.

Not seen too many but I read a while back they are being made to make noise for that very reason, but not sure it applies to existing cars. No doubt Tesla will offer a range of noises and other daft ideas.

Edit: Apparently new ones should have noise upto 12mph from July 2019 and old ones by 2021. God knows how the makers didn’t figure out this was a problem.

Let’s get this straight, people find that electric cars are dangerous because of the lack of noise, and due to this the electric car companies are going to spend £m’s devising a system to create a noise.
Christ it’s simple, why don’t the car owners just go and buy a Harpo Marx horn from Halfords

"If you’d been looking and listening, that wouldn’t have happened… :bulb:

Maybe you should ask deaf people how they manage to cross the road without getting run over.

Ah. David Prowse.
Did they even dub him there to get rid of his Bristolian Burr?
Shame!

Surely they’d not hear the question?

its not a question thats meant to be answered, its just conor being all superior and condescending again…

Thing is they do make a noise, even I can hear them and I am half mutton but I also have the common sense to look.Someone needs their lugs testing amongst other things.

How on earth have we managed to avoid being mown down in our thousands by bicycles all these years? Could it be that we’ve actually used our eyes and ears before stepping out into the road?

There’s a new breed of Stealth Cycle ■■■■, complete with aerodynamic crash helmet, Lycra shorts and a tour d’ Yorkshire T-shirt

Where we live though we can usually hear them, panting like hell trying to get up the hill

And at the same time sections of road are having ‘improvement works’ to reduce noise pollution.

Ask: “HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO CROSS THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING RUN OVER■■?”
