who do they train with

Hi Jennie. Almost certainly in house training with test also in house by a delegated examiner. That’s how all the big bus companies work though, when they get behind, they will use the likes of us to play “catch up”.

Dean. All the best with it. You should have no problem at all. Pete

Yes Pete. You are correct. They have in house trainers and examiners.

I know you are gutted about not getting the course. I really did have intentions of taking the course with PSTT.

It’s just been a crap start to the year with work and this opportunity has arisen. I only lose a tenner a week for 2 years towards the training, uniform and buddy. Then they give you it back after the 2 years as a lump sum.

That is when I will do something like Hiab or ADR just to give me a few more skills under my belt and then give the LGV applications another go. Hopefully the job market will be a little better by then.

Thanks for the congrats and best wishes.

Good luck Jen with getting onto the Artic Trunk. I look forward to reading all about it soon

I’m more genuinely pleased for you than gutted. I think you’ve done the right thing and, who knows, you may actually find you enjoy it! Pete

Dean,

Good luck, born to be a bus driver, now bugger off to the bus forum ! Only joking mate, hope you enjoy, lgv jobs situation can only get better in time

Sounds good Dean. I agree about the crap start to the year, only good run I had was taking a 7.5 ton Izuzu down to Highbridge and meeting you. Been to a job interview today and done some tests for a job at Gate Aviation, and just had a call from Consort Frozen Foods asking me to go there on Thursday for an assessment drive. Also joined another agency, the guy that runs it knows most of my family and might be able to sort out some tipper work for me. Things are looking up now, certainly makes a change from sleeping lots and staying up all night worrying about finances etc.

Agreed there. Don’t think I know what a good night’s sleep is. And definitely going grey with worry.

Good luck with your interviews / assessments. Once you are over the first assessment they are like water off a ducks back lol.

Keep us up to date

Already on the coach forums lol. But thought I’d be clever and multi-task

Definitely hoping things improve in next 2 years. Don’t think they can get much worse

Are you ■■■■ ing me,a bloody bus driver you traitor you.

Well,I guess it’ll be good to hear about the job of the enemy  but it’ll ruin you as a wagon driverist Dean as you’ll get stuck in that rut of pulling out of stops without indicating and on the rare occasion you do use it you’ll leave it on all day!

Seriously though, good on you Dean. :stuck_out_tongue:

Dean,

Well done bud, been away all week and only just got to read this. It all came together in the end!

Remember to claim your tax rebate for washing your uniform at home too!!! Gotta claim everything back from the state where possible!

Hope it all goes well and do be a stranger to us and leave us for the “bus” people

C

Just got the email to say training starts Monday 12th.

Was supposed to be there at 8am today. Except they forgot to send the email to me :unamused: :unamused:

No CRB back yet so I assume that it will be conditional on a successful CRB check.

All looks good though.

Nice to see the bus world is as organised as the truck one!

Good luck to you and I hope you enjoy it.

It’s getting closer mate! I reckon you will actually get right into it and after your two years will have a major think about leaving to go back as an LGV driver. All the best with it Dean.

You might well be right there… Although ATM I’m thinking of it as just the 2 yr stop gap and a way of saving a grand over that period.

It definitely is getting close though

No chatting up the ole dears dean!!! when they start slipping you the ole worthers toffee’s lol good luck with the training piece of cake you will be in a auto prob a dennis plaxton? then when you send it off you get your automatic licence upgrade to a manual as you have passed your truck licence.

loosing the tenner a week is actually a good thing end of the 2 years a nice bonus for you and you have not actually missed it plus for year 3 it will be a 500 a year payrise on top of other rises you may get

make sure you give us all a good diary on it!!

Disco

Nice one Dar

good luck with all the training and let us know how it is going with a little diary , less than a week away now

all the best with it

Jx

Thanks lads and lasses for the support.

I will sneak a diary in somewhere. Might just make it a link to a blog as it’s a bit off topic.

Roll on Monday

You can’t keep a good man down! This might not have been your first choice in your driving career but well done on taking a flexible approach and the best of luck with life “On the buses”. Don’t disappear now, you already have valuable experience to assist newbies in their quest to become "PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS!

No plans on disappearing into oblivion. And thanks for the support .

I really am just looking at it as a stop gap. And of course another arrow in my bow.

I will still try and be around to be my ever usual helpful witty self.

Look out for me if any of you are ever doing local drops around Weston Super Mare.

Be careful out there. It’s a mad world

Well, it’s almost upon ya mate! Just one more sleep!

Seriously mate, all the best for tomorrow and I really do think you will enjoy it. Not just the job but also the training.

I remember that I really enjoyed it and was quite sad when I got my pass certifacte and it all had to end. It was great just driving around the countryside with the trainer and a couple of colleagues, stopping at all the butty vans you can find.

Hi Dean
Just want to wish you all the best with your new job and training, and glad you wont “disappear into oblivion” as you would be sorely missed mate
