Ee, thar wor primitive in Sheffield i t’ord days, mind, afore that we had thatch on’t barrel.

We used to vent taks running with t’lids resting on t’catches and t’bottom valves oppen,used to get rid of t’smell and evaporate what were left,then book a steam out.Can you still do that? We had an AEC MK3 written off when t’thatch caught fire Malc,mind thi it were an owd 'un. :grimacing:

That was another fiddle that got stopped Chris, the customers would only accept proper certificates and sealed tanks, we have had many a good do out of booking a self clean.

No wonder I got ■■■■■ in some of my loads of Derv,is there!!! Dennis.

No,we didn’t do rubbish like derv or petrol Dennis except gas oil for NCB,far more refined products than that.I never had load rejected because of a off spec tank,but one of our drivers had one investigated at Clayton Aniline Manchester after t’kids had peed down t’dipstick tube in back compartment. :stuck_out_tongue:

I often did derv in a GP tank but only to storage and oil distribution depots and power stations as there was few hauliers who were able to take 5000 gallon deliveries then. There was no such thing as a designated tank then on general purpose tanks as long as it was liquid we carried it. :wink:

I seem to recall an incident at Tudor Crisps at Peterlee when “heating oil” got confused with “eating oil” and went in wrong tank? Evans had one MK5 AEC designated to carry isobutyl alchohol out of BP Hull for a single customer whose name I can’t remember. :unamused:
