Like the look of the Stobart Tanker on tv last night .My question is if you are a seasoned driver ,you would have a good understanding of weigh transfar ,and a basic grasp of H+S so why does it take 6 months to train up to connect up the same hoses to the same inlets or outlets? .Remember my question is (Why 6 months)

Because it is like a flying bomb and carries a highly explosive load, either that or he was just a ■■■■■■ and a slow learner

Fuel companies and Fast Eddie !!! Now there’s an explosive mix(and nothing to do with combustion of the fuel!!!) If what I was told circa 15 years ago by a senior exec of the major oil company I dealt with was true(and our supplier didn’t and wouldn’t deal with Fast Eddie)I could make your hair curl!! I reckoned I enjoyed favourable credit terms but I couldn’t hold a candle to what “The Fast One” had screwed out of his two suppliers!!I never thought that Major Oil Companies had sleepless nights but I was positivley disabused of the thought I can tell you!! I can’t understand why the temporary driver had to have the regular driver baby sitting him for six months, surely he had already passed his ADR for tankers.
Cheers Dave.

Hiya Dave I assume that the 6 months required to achieve the required standard is a reflection of the calibre of drivers that Stobart attracts or as a company policy, hires! Dennis.

You obviously know more about their operating policies than most of us Dennis, coming from the same area and running a big outfit yourself. You would think as in one of your previous posts says, they could get a very good price on fuel with the volume they buy without running their own tankers.
Cheers Dave.
Does seem strange that 6 months training is given, when we used to do battery acid you did your adr and then did a week with another driver then get on with it. Sure know which I would rather get splashed with!

I’ll you something else as well Dave ---- if it took 6 months to train that individual I defo wouldn’t want HIM delivering 35000 litres of derv into my depot!!! The ■■■■■■ might not have emptied his lines previously and I would have got a 100 litres of RED into the bulk tank then we would have been up “■■■■ creek” without a paddle eh! But then the Oil Co. I dealt with wouldn’t have contracted ameuters to deliver their products!!Dennis.
I imagine the price being paid for the Stobart fuel is quite closely aligned with the price that Tesco are buying it from the refinery for their own stores

hiya,
Truth !!! my introduction to becoming a tanker driver was “just follow Allan he knows the job” true it was only “polished water” but it was’nt very long before i was just nipping for a load of cherry without any further instruction or training.

Yea Dave I have but haven’t read them all as I nearly ■■■■■■ my-self laughing!!! Surely ESL can’t claim that all this professional abuse means they are successful and these comments mean they are doing something right! what a reputation to be saddled with!!— all I can say is there is a well proven saying “all that glitters is not gold” and also “If it looks too good to be true it usually is” Cheers Dennis.

Dennis would have agreed with your statement if Edward was still in charge, but now they are at such a higher level, too much smart money involved now.
You must admit that they have lifted the profile of the haulage and indeed taken it to a more professional level.
With regards to the tankers I think they are probably planning to do the Tesco fuel deliveries and would not be surprised if they purchased Allan Stobart

In the very near future Tesco will have them secuerly by the “short n’ curllies” the margins they will be operating at will be “■■■ paper” thin if Tesco’s have anything to do with it.Can you honestly see the Supermarket saying OK Lads don’t forget to mark yourselves a decent margin up on your Rate Schedules ! us supermarkets are all philanthropic organisations!look how well we treat the farmers and growers!!! And the next flock of pigs will be over in 30 minutes!!! Dennis.
