That had me in stiches when william stobart turned up you would think the good lord himself had turned up the fuss they made.
Well isn’t Ponshus Pilot CEO of Tesco and what did he do to Lord Jesus? (apologies to all those that are religeous but I am just demonstrating a point)Bewick.
To many they are the GODS of UK haulage. Love them or hate them one has to admit they know how to run a haulage business.
a few years ago I would have agreed with you. However, after hearing a few first hand accounts from people who have been screwed over by them, and the haulage rates they operate with, and living in the Southend area where the company has bought the airport and has bulldozed plans through to expand the airport at the cost to residents lives and property, i now disagree. They care not one bit how they are perceived now, that is evident by their treatment of locals here and the properties they are demolishing, even in the face of huge local opposition, the only thing they are interested in is profit I’m afraid to say. I used to admire the way they promoted the haulage industry, now I feel they are doing it harm. I for one won’t be watching the series, not that it will make any difference!

I tend to agree, however they are superb at running a haulage business. It was a brilliant piece of business buying Southend Airport, they should make millions on it.
I know Leigh on Sea, Essex very well, I really like it there.
Sorry its turned out to be Stobart bashing i was only interested in the Tanker training bit(6months) having said that i have just watched a clip on youtube of a Stobart driver struggling to get into a Tesco in macclesfield only to have a sly ■■■■■■■ videoing him from the inside of his cab .(is this what the other half do ) why not get off your arse and help a fellow driver who after all is in the same boat as everybody else working his stones off just to keep his head above water .

brilliant■■? try living here and seeing all the heartache they are causing !! No, they know how to run a business profitably, there is a big difference between that and what they claim to do. And make millions on it? How? And at what cost trying?
I know Leigh on Sea, Essex very well, I really like it there.
Do any of you think hes bothered about anything we say ?. I dont think so for one minute do you.And surely we are better than some of the comments that have been made about other drivers when we all work in the same industry.

I live and work not that far away! London needs another airport and if they can get Ryanair to use the airport it will increase it’s value. City investors will eventually buy the airport off them.

He is probably laughing at us and at “his” spotters…
hey Givover, apologies for ranting on your thread. That company name is mud here where I live, and it makes me so angry when people who know nothing about the real situation comment.I won’t let myself be wound up any more. I will bow out and leave your thread to what is was started for, sorry again. Enjoy the series.
No Problems i was only looking at the technical side of things ,On the other issue i am more than aware of the damage being done by large operators slashing rates and muscling in on new areas like ireland for example.
Stanfield:
A hell of a lot of us on here must have sat and watched it and will know doubt be sitting there again next week,PS( so who are the anoraks)
hiya,
Well “Stanfield” not much of a goggleboxer and don’t own an anorak did’nt know until this thread kicked off that there was such a programme, still won’t be watching, now if it had been about a proper family run haulage outfit “there are still many” i would consider wasting a bit of leccy.PS do you think it’s worth filling that application form in,i’ll just get it from the toilet.
thanks harry long retired
But Harry, who are these proper family run outfits? Pawsons, Stillers, Macfarlane? family run probably, properly, doubtful!
Successful family hauliers may be Brian Yeardley, Norman Lewis, Lawsons of Cockermouth. I would put Walkers of Tuxford amongst them, but is there enough history & excitement to make a six week program and hold the public’s interest, write about the normal everyday life of a driver and it is typically boring. Walkers have been at it since the 50’s & diversified, they race trucks, hire out cranes, in fact anything that turns a shilling. But gay singers eating bugs in the desert, politicians stroking an actresses ■■■■■ or children’s TV presenters being seen doing lines of coke, is what the mainstream public want to see. There are specialist films about these smaller family hauliers with books, videos and models, but they wouldn’t interest the “normal” tattooed fat girl with a staffy in the park.
I think it is the same reason people watch Casualty, Emmerdale, Eastenders and Corrie, if it was true life you would want to live as far away as possible. Multiple pileups, fires, plane crashes, lesbians and aids. When the ratings drop off they kill off a popular character or three
hiya,
Guess you are making sense as usual W N, but still not tempted to turn on, not turned on with lesbians either would be wasting my time if i was, just happy to be past it.
thanks harry long retired.
Bloody hell would you really like to see a TV programme about Lawsons of Cockermouth, now that would be really entertaining and it would surely keep you all amused. Lawsons are a very successful haulier and every bit has ruthless as Stobarts albeit on a much smaller scale.

givover:
Like the look of the Stobart Tanker on tv last night .My question is if you are a seasoned driver ,you would have a good understanding of weigh transfar ,and a basic grasp of H+S so why does it take 6 months to train up to connect up the same hoses to the same inlets or outlets? .Remember my question is (Why 6 months)
Because it is like a flying bomb and carries a highly explosive load, either that or he was just a ■■■■■■ and a slow learner
Well, after reading all this I had a look at the programme last night. Didn’t stick it for long, got to the pink headband and threw the towel in.
How our industry has changed, all I could see was driving big fancy motors from A to B. No, it wasn’t for me, I suppose that’s how things are done these days, I think they call it progress. I somehow can’t see any of those “drivers” struggling with frozen sheets and ropes in the middle of winter. In our day there was skill, a lot of the time you had to use your initiative to get the job done, now it’s do this, do that, “planners” never off the phone. Stobarts is a big outfit now, he’s been ruthless getting there, the industry and job that we knew will never go back to how it was. Is that a good thing or bad? It’s got to be good hasn’t it? Us old scrotes will just have to live with our memories. They were happy days for me.
Well episode two over and i can safely say what a Joke, how embarrsing was that,it made me cringe.
Whatever happend to vehicle checks where the defective headlight would have been put right or the sat nav in the windscreen i am sure that could result in a PG9, there was other things to note but by this time the medical staff had me restrained and medicated but i just managed to see the EDDIE SPOTTERS before having to be removed to a quiet room, these people need therapy what is wrong with them. Is it me■■?
hiya,
Just found out from the A one thread that the Eddie Stobart programme is aired on Friday evening that’s good news, i’m out, now if it was about the A one company i might ask my old lady to record it for me.
thanks harry long retired.
