If they need permanent drivers at Sherburn, where do you apply or which agency is it through and will they take someone with 15 months experience?

all i can say is your treated no different to stobby drivers same rules etc and the job is great. i hope they take on again.

OK, I know what some people think of this firm, but what I see is them doing very well and generally having as safe a future as anyone in this crazy game.

I was in Stockyard Truckstop the other night and I got chatting to a Stobbys driver (tramper) in the bar. A real nice bloke, obviously a very experienced trucker, he told me how happy he was working for the big green firm and that working conditions were generally very good. The wages are good (according what he told me £550 to £650 take home per week) and good modern kit to use. No mega pressure and nice big cabbed unit (he was in an FH Globetrotter XL).

I will be needing to earn big bucks soon so naturally this sounds quite appealing…does anyone have any genuine unprejudiced information for me about the Wakefield/Normanton or Sherburn sites please? I will be looking for tramping work.

Ta!

wakefields shut mate i apllied nights tramping sherburn got a letter saying wait to see if anything came up if you dont hear ought in six months reapply normanton is an old irlam depot not heard anything good about irlam and it will still be the same managers why dont you try ecm they advertise quite a lot and your well versed in that sort of work good luck anyway mate

what would he have to be doing to earn that, is it really possible , the one i was talking to the other week said he earnt 43,000 last year, his hourly rate was 8.10[ nights ] . im struggling to see on 8.10 p/h how you manage to earn 43,000 p.a , its 800+ p.w

I’m on salary £17kpa, 40 hour week and that works out at £8.17 ph. so that would mean £26k in bonuses/overtime :open_mouth:

they work max hrs 60 70 a week five nights out thats 100 quid a week if there on 20 quid night out money so i would say its possible mighty long days

Shrek - i work as an O/D subcontracting for Stobbies and they are great to work for.

i have seen drivers who think that the grass is greener elsewhere but generally it is’nt.

Loads of people slag them off but they have been very professional in my experience, it seems to be a solid job and if i didnt have my own kit, i would work for them anyday.

No doubt i will get the normal saddos slagging this post off because they expect £800pw for 5 mins work.

thank god i can refer you too this…

stobbies

ive worked out of wakefield when it was up and running and it was a cracking job absolutley fantastic, and i bet it aint changed much.

although you will be away 5 nights and doing max hours.

you will get a top of the range truck but remember that when you arent in it it will still be on the road.

Spoke to a bus driver that passed the interview for a class 1 job at the sherburn site ,He then got a phone the next day saying they are not taking on again until feb next year. He was desperate to get away from the bus driving job :frowning:

Thanks for the replies guys.

Because of some personal circumstances I won’t be looking for a move until after November (or possibly into next year. Life’s a bit upside down at the moment :unamused: ).

To be honest, I’d love to stay where I am, it’s a really great job and I love it, it just doesn’t pay very well that’s all and I’ll be the sole earner so I’ll need to do the max. I don’t mind putting in the hours and I’m no stranger to hard graft either so max hours doesn’t phase me at all.

Thanks again.

Theres a very big queue of applicants waiting to get their foot in the door at Sherburn inc … Me
No doubt theres many other TN members who have applied to work at ESL sherburn

ECM are laying off BIG TIME, its a struggle on the transporters, Walon are looking to lay off 40% of their drivers aswell :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

If your working, its head down / mouth shut time IMHO :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

If your not working, its a dog eat dog world out there at the moment :open_mouth:

if you want a 7-5 job,its not for you,if you want the big hrs, paid by the hr,no daft mileage wage structure, its ideal, but, the job is generally dictated by your planner, get a goodun its great, but some just take the p###! theres no shortage of applicants, but as ever always drivers leaving :unamused:
