Eddie Stobart Trucks and Trailers (Episode 2)

The ■■■■■■■■ and sniping on this forum, and especially this thread is just rediculous at times, come on men, grow up for Christ sake!

As for the programme, i think it gives outsiders an excellent insight into the industry and gives car drivers some idea what drivers face, which surely is a good thing ain’t it? It’s just quite unbelievable that many of you guys are just ripping it to shreds!

There now Dennis.Youve just done two posts in your normal old style, honest and factual.Pleasant reading again. TBH I dont care for seeing firms such as Stobbart dominating either but its the way its going to go,its happened in other industries and it been going on in transport for years, just hes more noticeable.Think how many of the public are aware how big Wincanton is compared to how many would know if they had a stick out livery like Stobbie.
Mark.

Rikki-UK:
Now we all know the reality is different, but do we realy want yet another expose on bent running, poor maintainence etc we have had more than our sahre of them.

I thought that was just exactly what was high-lighted - or should that be headlighted?

That’s true - they picked Joe Average doing a normal days work ,leaving the fireworks for another time. Its a good PR stunt at the end of the day ; its got 'em all talking on this site anyway. I wouldn’t fancy working under the spotlight. A mate of mine took a reporter for Truck/M down to Maroc for a trip. In Maroc the sanitation sounded like hell. I asked the driver why he put the hack thru so much agro & he said.‘It was Ramadan & everything was closed.’ The hack failed to mention that. But it made my mate look like a drama merchant in print.

Did Stobarts charge Mark for a new steering wheel?

seeing as there was a big knob there :open_mouth:

and all those soft toys!?

When i worked there they were frowned upon… Jacko jumped in and throws a parrot off dash into bin! (not my truck, on relief driving that week)
also see who is involved in filming??

Who was the Peter showing the Saddoes around the trucks, it wasn’t peter pratt was it?

The problem now days is… when i came into the business in the late 70’s i had to learn how to load a trl. mainly flats roping and sheeting … how to use chains and dogs…yes i got hurt not bad but enough to learn how to do it first time … I was that small i had to put two doll’s in the rope to get it tight… the only way i learnt it was not tight enough was when the driver kicked my ■■■… but i did learn…with the chains and dogs… when i pushed it shut and did not get my fingers out the way in time… now you try and put another five chains on a load with you right hand throbbing you learn…

I often used to use double dollies especially roping stacked empty pallets although I did’nt shut my fingers in a chain dog I did almost take my head off with one that I’d done up using metal tubing for leverage,on a tyred excavator, when I released it.That’s why the guvnor got a set of these afterwards.

I thought better than last week.

Mark’s planner is a div planning him a near impossible day from the off. After 7(?) years he should know to allow time for ■■■■ ups.

When will they learn that if you plan tight, you have stressed out drivers who are much more accident prone? Then missed delivery slots, customers let down, loads having to be brought back, rebooked, etc. Very, very expensive! All for the sake of allowing an extra hour.

Fiona is lovely. Women who do this job have my admiration. Think I spotted an engagement ring. A lucky guy somewhere. Bet he has no trouble connecting his red line

Hate the narraters voice. Its as if he’s constantly building to crescendo.

At least no highly explosive diesel this week so we can all sleep easy tonight.

Alot better than last week, Fiona and Mark seemed more down to earth than the other two. Fiona very easy on the eye two (bloody awful pink car though) probrably already knew the headlight was out as a warning light should come up on the dash on scannys (does on mine anyway) and it’s just one of those things that you can’t sort til you get back to the yard.

Mark seemed alright too, unlike those zbs from last week. Nice touch with the new truck having his younger daughters name on. Just wondering why they replaced his old truck so early as it’s was only a 2008 model, surely they keep em for five years at least?

The least said about his planner the better, previous career at KFC? Says it all don’t it

As for the spotters, hey we’ve all got a hobby haven’t we? I’m actually intrigued how the spotters league table works, surely it’s very easy to cheat your way to the top or do you have to have photographic proof of every truck you’ve spotted?

well i have to say that was sooooooooo much better than last weeks offering . mark you must be well chuffed at having the new truck named after yer other daughter , hope you managed to get a photo of the two trucks together , that would have been good .

that driving postition you have does look a bit uncomfortable though , hmmmm cooking on the unit eh , ? are we going to get a come dine with me ESL edition ? ,TopTit, Mr bomb, fiona & yerself , …what fun !

Curtains pulled across to stop sunlight comin threw for camera men honest lol … Was a suprise with truck name but didn’t have an idea it would just not sure they would have done it… Was happy with result, sorry to the evelyns to :frowning: Hilda was my nans name n yea she would have killed me to

PMSL, it was the way you said ’ I hope its not some rubbish name… like my own nans!!
You’ve taken a bit of stick on here in good jest too.
Like the others have said, you came across well. I hope the next time we see you, you’re not going to be having a go a the guy’s in the wash bay or yelling at someone because you need their space because your hours are up?? Oh crikey now where did that come from?? :open_mouth:

at least their not showing the company to be the Angels of UK trucking
the planning well aint that the truth
push push push
and the driver has to carry the burden for failure of the planer

Harry Monk:

DAF95XF:
Ive had to get somebody else to put the red on for me too - the bugger wouldnt go on

That’s a FAIL then. You should have lubricated it using the diesel in your tank.

In winter, I’ve had to give mine a little tap with a hammer and rest it on the dock light for 5 mins because the ice would stop me being able to get it on, but never had to ask for help… YET

Harry Monk:

cockney:
Now i have stopped laughing… I could just see me ringing the boss… Hi boss that fridge trl you have asked me to pick up i have got a problem… i cannot get the red air line on … can you send out a fitter sorry technical engineer to sort the problem out !!! the answer yes mate you just sit in the cab and keep warm, and remember to keep your door locked mate just in case someone try s to rob you … my boss is good like that lol any comments

Well yes it is true that she had to call Scania out to put her red airline on, but then on the other hand I wouldn’t crawl over her to get to you.

Can you imagine the call though. Phone ring at Kelltruck (just round the corner from Newark base)
“Hi its Fi can you send someone round to plug me in” Service manger relays that to the workshop then suddenly theres 10 fitters trying to get into 1 service van!

Ive always found you get more resistance with the yellow line usually require the use of my right knee for it

If i phoned out a fitter to connect a air line i would most likely get hauled in front of manager and my balls booted!

Agree with you mate. As long as the headlight bulb is replaced as soon as possible there shouldnt be a problem.
Regarding the truck replacement they might do it on a mileage. The bloke said that the old truck will go onto locals. Mark i thought you came across very well mate. No need to worry there. The naming of your new truck was a nice touch. The planning of your work wasnt that impressive though. All in all a better programme than last week.

Anybody notice that the trampers were cooking their meal on a stove above the fuel tank, hope it was`nt gas, not recommended.
