Eddie Stobart Trucks and Trailers, Channel 5

I don’t drink very much maybe a couple of beers from the fridge now and then.

I don’t smoke anything.

I don’t gamble.

I don’t have a massive mortgage or debts.

I don’t have a big flash car.

I don’t have expensive hobbies.

The youngest is at home and he works so not keeping him.

And I don’t know how you would get by with that job. I guess you must be eligible for benefits at that level which would bump your money up?

may be they walk out the job centre in their uniform with the job seekers allowance rolled up in a bundle with a laggy band and punch the air saying “i can eat today, yipee”

of course your firm pays you FAR,FAR more than £7.50 p.h ,but whats that got to do with stobarts   ,they dont pay a rate of £7.50 p.h,like they dont give there drivers 26 days per year holidays,i get 33 days per year and my train sets bigger than yours as well

  • i get as many cream cakes as i can fill my face with, pizzas, pork pies[no  ],sanwiches etc,etc .
im sure if you talk to 99% of drivers they earn FAR,FAR more than you :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Obviously you have missed the point completely. :unamused:
The point was some of the posters on here have been accused of being jealous of Stobarts drivers.
Well if you look at some of the T&Cs offered to the Middleton Tesco drivers to go over to Widnes RDC you will see why no one could be jealous!
That is unless your cab happy and want to drive a shiny new truck to take home and show it to your mum.

You can get more than £7:20 an hour on days stacking shelves at Aldi :frowning:

When you say

The point was some of the posters on here have been accused of being jealous of Stobarts drivers.

I think you mean me, well if you had followed the whole thread you may realise the remark was not aimed at you!

44 Tonne Ton:
For the life of me I can’t understand why people would do this job for that money but I guess we’re talking about guys who buy into the Stobart image thing and the shiny new trucks.

The pay may not be the best in the world, however I would say that they are at the “market rate” (remembering there is a difference between cost of living in the north and south), if the shifts can suit your personal life, there an element of job security and also sickness and pension schemes available which probably goes some way towards staff retention. Perhaps some people are happier with this setup than just chasing pound notes?

Have Stobarts had a word with the moderators?

I agree with that, having left a well paid job in Europe to take up one which paid basic wages but suited my family circumstance at the time. Being the richest bloke in the churchyard doesn’t interest me!

I wouldnt be the slightest bit suprised

You’d need to do 75 hours a week mon-fri at £7.20 to earn that on the road with them.

And you need to squeeze in a 30 min break every 4 hours which obviously you don’t get paid. :unamused:

why every 4 hours??

To be fair at the end of the day it’s just another reality Tv programe aimed at the general Joe public that has been hyped up to make it more interesting. And no doubt there was a whole lot of clever editing done by the programme makers to make the people in it look better / worse than they actually are. It’s all about tv ratings at the end of the day.

On the plus side it will hopefully bring to the attention of the general motoring public some of the safety issues involved in driving the large trucks. For example the one clip in the programme where the car undertook the truck and cut across the white chevrons in front of the truck. So with a bit of luck more clips like that will show the public just what it is that truck drivers have to put up with. And maybe get across to them the sheer size, weight of the vehicles and the stopping distances and handling that the truck driver has to contend with.

And on the discussion of the £7.20 an hour… I would kill for an hourly rate of that amount. For the past 7 years I’ve been getting £6 per hour Monday - Friday working nightshift and £8 per hour saturday and sunday. And working 60+ hours a week :frowning:

   - i retract my statement your honour.

I was looking on stobarts website this morning, they are recruiting weekend trampers k35-k40 a year £7.20 doesn’t make sense even at premium rates for saturday and sunday this doesn’t add up.

You only get deducted 30 minutes per shift once and only if that shift is over 4 hours.

Well that is how I read the payslip posted on here.

Jeezus man!!! What are you doing that only pays £6 for NIGHT shift? Is that not less than minimum wage?

My guess is they’re including the meal allowance and night out money in that which would add about £8,000 to any hours worked and that part is tax free.
