Jeezus man!!! What are you doing that only pays £6 for NIGHT shift? Is that not less than minimum wage?
[/quote]
Haa… Sorry just re-read my post, I should have mentioned I’m a van driver for a sameday courier firm not a truck driver. Van driving has always been fairly low paid As far as I can remember the minimum wage is about £5.92 (I think)
Though fingers crossed at the next budget they will increase the minimum wage over £6 and I’ll then get a pay rise . Knowing my luck they’ll just put it up to £6 though.

I was looking on stobarts website this morning, they are recruiting weekend trampers k35-k40 a year £7.20 doesn’t make sense even at premium rates for saturday and sunday this doesn’t add up.
My guess is they’re including the meal allowance and night out money in that which would add about £8,000 to any hours worked and that part is tax free.
At £7.20 lets say 60 hours plus £8,000=£30,464 so yeah it is starting to add up, don’t think i’ll bother rather be at home at weekend. 30k plus is decent money though.
I’ll probably get flamed for this - Im considering applying to Stobarts
I’ll explain, Im single and have no ties and I work every weekend driving coaches anyway…

do what you like stu, dont be ruled by the ■■■■■■■■ you read on here. if the wage suits you and you want to work weekends then go for it. forget the hourly rate and meal allowance just add it all together and see what it comes to a week and i bet its average for everyone pays.

Ive not been listening to the ■■■■■■■■ at all, otherwise I wouldnt be thinking about it
Its only at the thinking stage as the nearest depot is at Crick from Basingstoke!!!
Where the copy of the payslip. The only thing I have seen is a copy of the Terms & Conditions thats nothing to do with a payslip.(or have I missed something)

Ive just been looking for the payslip, can’t find it either
There was never a payslip posted, only the contract. Fact is you’re not gonna make £35-40k working for Stobbies like some on here say. That’s just pie in the sky. Realistically you could do £30k at push with max hours and all weekends, but that’s about it. Obviously that’s not including allowances as they are exacty that and not part of the wage.

It is a ■■■■ basic and trying to use night out money to make it look attractive is daft imo. Night out money has a purpose it is for showers, 2 hot meals, laundry and bedding. It isn’t to make your salary look decent. For a blue chip company it is a ridiculous rate all the money must be spent on the wagons because it definitely isn’t spent on the drivers. Ok you knock your pan in doing 60+ hours every week having a special relationship with the POA button but is that any life compared to the other guy who works 45-50 hours a week gets home every night and earns the exact same as you
Stobarts should be paying around £11.50 days , £13.50 nights plus night out money. Get this meal allowance tae ■■■■ and pay a decent rate. This meal allowance is obviously some sort of national insurance dodge on stobbies behalf. The less the basic is the less he pays in contributions.
DarcBlue:
To be fair at the end of the day it’s just another reality Tv programe aimed at the general Joe public that has been hyped up to make it more interesting. And no doubt there was a whole lot of clever editing done by the programme makers to make the people in it look better / worse than they actually are. It’s all about tv ratings at the end of the day.
On the plus side it will hopefully bring to the attention of the general motoring public some of the safety issues involved in driving the large trucks. For example the one clip in the programme where the car undertook the truck and cut across the white chevrons in front of the truck. So with a bit of luck more clips like that will show the public just what it is that truck drivers have to put up with. And maybe get across to them the sheer size, weight of the vehicles and the stopping distances and handling that the truck driver has to contend with.
And on the discussion of the £7.20 an hour… I would kill for an hourly rate of that amount. For the past 7 years I’ve been getting £6 per hour Monday - Friday working nightshift and £8 per hour saturday and sunday. And working 60+ hours a week
Thats shocking i get paid more than that and i work for a firm not far from Chester and average 45 hours a week class 1 driver
Wheres Averly?

I never normally correct spelling, because it normally doesn’t matter, but one of the times it does is in place names. It is spelt “Aveley” and is just north of the Thames, near the Dartford Tunnel.
