Tesco did have their own fleet, but they weren’t hauliers, the fleet was a necessity as they needed control of their store deliveries

Tesco not only delivered to their stores but also utilised their fleet to the full collecting return loads from many manufacturing companies on a daily basis.

As regards Stobart i really think they ,just like Tesco, are a monster out of control.

As Tesco have forced many small shops to close the same can be said for Stobart who have undercut the rates and sent many independent hauliers to the wall.
Its time the Monopolies and Mergers Commission to a long hard look into Stobarts antics before we are left with just a handful of the big boys transporting our goods.

One final point all these posters who say people who criticise Stobart are jealous dream on!

I drive for a company which pays far far more than £7:50 an hour, get 26 days holiday a year, plus two weeks off at Christmas, drive a 10 plate and home every day!

So as regards being jealous far from it.

Cheers Rob the nurse has just increased my drug intake so hopfully coming out of stupid mode.

The people who sit behind the PC watching the lorrys to make sure they are not going over there hours, must get bored. What sort of job is it?

I spotted " Alexandria 21 " , the tanker , on the M6 today , I couldn’t make out who was driving but it was double manned .
Does this mean Piercey is having another 6 months training or is there another nooby out on the road with a mobile " bomb" ■■ :unamused:

of course your firm pays you FAR,FAR more than £7.50 p.h ,but whats that got to do with stobarts   ,they dont pay a rate of £7.50 p.h,like they dont give there drivers 26 days per year holidays,i get 33 days per year and my train sets bigger than yours as well

  • i get as many cream cakes as i can fill my face with, pizzas, pork pies[no  ],sanwiches etc,etc .
im sure if you talk to 99% of drivers they earn FAR,FAR more than you :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:

Slightly off topic but do stobart pay £8per hour nationaly or does it vary acording to thr region of the uk the base is in.

they pay 7.60 6.a.m-6p.m
8.50 6 p.m-6 a.m
whether thats nat or not i dont know,i collected out of a depot nr london and i was told they couldnt get drivers for 7.60 p.h,all drivers were agency, but as with all things only what i was told so may or may not be true

Obviously you have missed the point completely. :unamused:
The point was some of the posters on here have been accused of being jealous of Stobarts drivers.
Well if you look at some of the T&Cs offered to the Middleton Tesco drivers to go over to Widnes RDC you will see why no one could be jealous!
That is unless your cab happy and want to drive a shiny new truck to take home and show it to your mum.

You can get more than £7:20 an hour on days stacking shelves at Aldi :frowning:

Not THAT old chestnut again, do you want to stack shelves at Aldi? If so, go and do it. Most drive trucks because they DON’T want to stack shelves at Aldi.

I WOULD work for Stobarts if it was close to home, money was right, job was ok etc.

I go to work for money, and couldnt’ give a **** who’s name is on the top of the wage slip, as long as the numbers on the bottom are ok.

It’s useful to see figures in black and white. The rate is poor and is paid all hours so no O/T and sun night pays less than sat night. For the life of me I can’t understand why people would do this job for that money but I guess we’re talking about guys who buy into the Stobart image thing and the shiny new trucks. It confirms my long held suspicions. :unamused:

to some people money obviosuly isnt everything and would happily trade a few extra pounds an hour for a uniform/shiny truck and to be saluted by ESP’s on the road and an automatic probably guaranteed “on your way drive” ‘pass go collect £100’ wave of the hand at a VOSA check point.

each to their own i guess.

depends what sort of life style you lead i guess, if you have a family etc etc, o.k its not the best paying lorry driving job in the world but stobarts and all other employers still hold all the aces when it comes to jobs, if people want a job they’ll take it even if the rate is ‘low’ in their eyes. if they dont like it then they can leave and find another job, someone else will probably jump in their place??

I don’t drink very much maybe a couple of beers from the fridge now and then.

I don’t smoke anything.

I don’t gamble.

I don’t have a massive mortgage or debts.

I don’t have a big flash car.

I don’t have expensive hobbies.

The youngest is at home and he works so not keeping him.

And I don’t know how you would get by with that job. I guess you must be eligible for benefits at that level which would bump your money up?
