Eddie Stobart looses job to Wincanton

In Motor Transport they state that Aggregate Industries concrete products division has terminated its contract with ESL and Wincanton will take over from 1.3.19
I wonder what went wrong?

They picked Stobarts!

Completely ■■■■■■ the job up, crap planning and drivers not trained to do it right.

Got to the point where sites were requesting Stobart did not deliver!

Dunno don’t see how moving from Eddie Stobart to Wincanton will help much though Tbh.

From a drivers perspective they are the same.
At a guess though probably got undercut.

Britwic contractin Lutterworth in last 10-20years was 4 or 5 time swapped between Wincanton and Stobart.

At least the wincantonski drivers will be able to communicate with the "EE"s on building sites

Most big companues par very dimeral money and simeral job condition. But agregate job very bad,not clean, plenty heath@safety rulles.Better work for Britwic that there.

Because they were ■■■■!!!

Will dopey be tupe’d across to wincanton?

Wincanton construction have a very good name across the industry, they have really good kit, drivers are properly trained and they’re ■■■■ hot on health and safety, can’t be faulted really.

As above they do the cement mixers for Hanson and seem to do a good job and take the training seriously. Not too shabby money either for a class 2 day driver job just short of 30k if I recall correctly

I don’t know if it’s getting old and more risk conscious, but I have thought how close they put the mixer wagons to the trenches . It would be my luck that the ground gives way and toppled the truck.

Britvic is different, it’s straight forward general haulage on tautliners. It’s Stobarts bread & butter and they can do that sort of stuff on a large scale effectively for less money than most.

Specialist work like Aggregate Industries is best left to the outfits that are good at specialised work.

Is this the HIAB trailers confined to the “we gave it a go” pile along with the car tranporters?

thank Christ I’ve retired if this is specialist work

Biggest problem I have found is only about 20% of drivers actually have ratchet straps. When you take on a contract that requires strapping every pallet.
You need to be willing to spend some money and make sure every driver that will be doing aggregate has straps.
So you get lots of times where drivers without straps get sent there, then they cant take the load. Then it ends up going late.
Or just as often, drivers just think, ■■■■ it, it doesnt need straps. Then you get shot loads regularly because concrete actually moves alot more than it looks, especially when straight on trailer bed.

Also doesnt help when sites like hulland ward can take 3 - 4 hours from arriving too leaving.

Apparently though stobart arent making any money on aggregate industries anyway.

Forgive me, isn’t the Aggregate Industries lark what were running the HIAB trailers for.

Probably best shot of it anyway. Why fanny about with heavy loads like that & all the strapping when you can probably get paid twice as much pulling a half empty trailer of parcels 50 miles for Amazon.

Local agencies around here already looking for staff for Wincanton for ‘we cant tell you yet’ roles. I’m guessing Aggregate Industries must be the big secret.
