Britwic contractin Lutterworth in last 10-20years was 4 or 5 time swapped between Wincanton and Stobart.

Britvic is different, it’s straight forward general haulage on tautliners. It’s Stobarts bread & butter and they can do that sort of stuff on a large scale effectively for less money than most.

Specialist work like Aggregate Industries is best left to the outfits that are good at specialised work.

Is this the HIAB trailers confined to the “we gave it a go” pile along with the car tranporters?

thank Christ I’ve retired if this is specialist work

plus most of stobart curtain trls are no good for using ratchets on chock rail is so thin and not wide that when u tighten up it bends or pops off.we have a few ex stobart trls and i refuse to use them for and strapping down jobs

According to Vosa.Stobart had an O license for 120 veh on the Aggregate Industries job,can any one confirm how many trucks they had, suppose Mercedes/Renault user Wincanton don’t want them will it cause a financial problem.

At hulland ward they seem to have quite a few trailers filled waiting for units, bit wouldn’t say there were ever huge numbers of actual trucks pulling them out (worked for a company subbying for Stobies).

Don’t think there was ever a chance of getting 120 trailers in there unless its across multiple sites. Would guess maybe 50 tops unless they extended it since I was last there.

Good luck to Wincanton there as i hope they are pre loaded otherwise as mentioned it’ll take hours to get through.

Plus depending on the loader, some are right grumpy if you don’t put wooden blocks on the trailer in specific positions (total guesswork) or lose them in the maze as they fly around.

Take plenty of straps and edges. Think my record was 23 as some loads are double stacked and they have specific ways they want it strapping. Plus you need to get good at hiding you’re jumping on the trailer to get at the higher loads to put the corners on.

Turned up on more than one building site with a delivery of blocks to be told thank god your not Stobarts Apparently they take about two and a half hours on average to unload. Personally not bothered by their ott health and safety rules so what if it takes an extra ten minutes to secure a load if it stops someone from getting hurt. Wincanton already do most of the haulage for Ibstock so are in a good position to take on the AI contracts and there health and safety is pretty much the same when it comes to securing loads so can’t see that any outside hauliers will notice much difference between the two to be honest.

Wincanton Construction are unlikely to want the trucks. They prefer to use mostly W&Ds for site deliveries with a few artics for the easier access deliveries, and more and more of those have forklifts rather than cranes. They’ll probably try to cover a lot of the extra work by better use of their existing fleet.

Dull&bored has always had a bad rep regarding their loading speed, and that goes back to the days of Atkins loading out of there with their PSKs

Wincanton will probrably sub most of the work out like they did before. Stobarts tried to do it themselves and shut out the subbies but their drivers weren’t up to the job.
