Economical driving.

Currently having a 45 on the Chippenham bypass, sat nav tells me it’s 126 miles to our Nuneaton depot, computer tells me 105 miles worth of fuel left. No fuel card. It’s certainly encouraging me to think about my driving style! I’ve never coasted up to so many roundabouts in my life.

Hey ho, I’ll either get there or I won’t.

Iv’e got a pound on ya!!

If you do not make it the expletive will be … bleeding hell !!

Well I’ll be there at 10 pm (or not as the case may be  ) I’ll keep you informed.

You’ll be fine

Keep it in the green band, turn the AC off, keep the windows closed, tighten up your curtains if you have any, move your 5Th wheel as far forward as you dare, don’t touch the brakes, turn off all the lights/electrics you don’t need, find another lorry and coast behind that one. Use any hill for downward momentum, don’t keep constant speed going up them. Lots you can do to beat the computer. Anticipate, anticipate, anticipate.

Good luck.

Sounds like the voice over from our favourite green machine.

“126 miles to travel and only 105 miles in the tank and no fuel card… Will he make it…■■?”

Good luck

Is that on the fosse way as I do that exact run Chippenham to Nuneaton every week and I’m sure it’s less than 126 miles?

Please do not train to be a pilot, with you in control, the passengers would love to hear that you only filled the tanks half full, and prepare the brace, brace, brace position for a mid Atlantic ditching.
What kind of muppet has no fuel card, and risk running out of fuel, if you want to get back, pay the fuel from your own pocket.
Idiots in the transport industry, did they teach that in the Dcpc ?

And dump your load so you’re lighter, boss might not be too happy though.

Yea!! Fuel light roulette!! my moneys on you pal

I made it! You are quite right OAD, as I neared the M4 I breathed a sigh of relief when I realised the sat nav was expecting me to join the M4 and presumably the M5 later on. Obviously I went straight over which knocked 20 miles straight off. Also when I reached Cirencester it wanted me to turn left and go down Birdlip, again I ignored it and the Fosseway took more miles off.

My only slight concern was the short sharp hills on the Fosseway, my thinking being that if the fuel pick up was at the front of the tank I could be in bother.

It is a strange state of affairs however when Toby himself becomes the voice of reason! . To put your mind at ease Toby they took our fuel cards off us two years ago after some drivers were abusing them (M6 toll etc) and decided we must fill up at other depots. Problem is most depots are a bit off route and small, so they require us to drop our trailers before filling up which becomes a PITA.

Also strangely the UK has no say in fuel purchases, it’s all done through France via the tank telemetry. All well and good until Jean Paul is on holiday as is the case now and nobody can fill our empty tanks in our yard!

Anyhoo, like I say, I made it with a bit to spare (ignore the temp guage as it brings a whole new meaning to the word “optimistic”)

I’ve got diesel card but I’m only allowed too diesel up at tesco sites as are most of our drivers ,not my depot ,but any company trucks passing can come in and diesel up
A while ago my run was Worksop - snodland - nwk ,I was told too diesel up at daventry on way back :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: , I rang in one night and told young lass the pumps weren’t working ,expecting too be told to come back too depot and diesel up ,told too diesel up at balborough :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: :unamused: wtf ,that only lasted a few more weeks until someone saw sense and said you could diesel up at our depot before you left / got back on that run
Few years before we had if you’ve more than 1/2 tank ( couldn’t get 150 ltrs + in tank ) you weren’t allowed too diesel up ,trucks doing down south were coming off a1 and heading across too Corby too get fuel too get back .
I just can’t weigh these big companies up ,there’s no logic too it ,going miles out of your way too get diesel ,too save a few pence .

I was only joking Maoster, put it down to yard banter, nobody takes me seriously on here.

Looks like an Actros, love playing beat the fuel computer. Do you drive for K&N?

Norbert Dingledangle mate, which is why we’re having fuel issues at the moment. Apparently the depots own the fuel tanks but France owns the fuel and we buy it from them. If they don’t get it offered at a price they like then they don’t buy it! Fair enough I suppose but it doesn’t do us any favours in the meantime.

I wasn’t offended Tobes, and I apologise if my response read that way, it wasn’t intentional.

Imo it’d be very hard to be offended by you as you are probably the least offensive poster on here, always funny, always random, in fact you remind me of everybodys favourite mad Uncle.

Uncle Fester from the Adams Family.

I’m impressed Moaster you got down to about the last 2% of your fuel supply, pretty hairy stuff I bet you kept looking at that fuel reading.

Lol you’re right there BB, I was watching it like a hawk! I’ve always striven for good fuel consumption for no other reason than self satisfaction so I always try to drive economically but I’ll be the first to admit that sometimes I get lazy and floor it away from the lights or turn the TC off and have a bit of a play on roundabouts etc when empty, but last night was an exercise in focus, in reading the road ahead and above all anticipation. More so than usual anyway.

Hang on, maybe there’s room for a DCPC module here, sending drivers out with not quite enough fuel to complete their mission. . This time next year Rodney…
