Eat more chips!

Saw one of them heading up the M1 the other night, looked tidy with all the lights and light bars etc…£70 a day there innit?

Could be DWP, they use that phrase as well as Mortimers new firm from the ashes.

If it was the white scania , dwp from stoke . Lovely motor but sadly had more names on than a phone book.

Nonsense it’s 70 quid a day. We do a fair bit for them. See their drivers daily and they’re on similar money to us, well their drivers are I don’t know what DWP are paying.

My father in law was on for them years ago he was on more then. What’s the new name broughtons or something now isn’t it?.

How wierd I was working with him over Xmas and he was telling me about that I thought he was joking when he said they got a crane in to move the trailer lol. I don’t think that driver got laid of either from what he was saying. He always says to me “youngen if it looks like a lorry shouldn’t go down there then it probably shouldn’t if in doubt get of your arse and go and look” I see why now .

Why do they keep plodding away at a business that is bankrupt? if the management couldnt make a fist of it the first time around and needed to buy a calculator to work out how much they were losing why plod on in a new name?

i saw one today, was a blue scania with Mortimers on the side of the cab, not D. Mortimer as it used to say

was pulling a plain white reefer trailer

The crane driver dropped that trailer with a more gentle touch than most shunters I see

They’ve a number of wagons on the road now, all using either Mortimer or Broughton. D Mortimer is the farm. Most of the artics are in the traditional colours and there is also a couple of white and red DAF CF rigids on pallet work. Even the old 3 series V8 still gets about. I saw a plain white Actros with black Mortimer lettering on the headboard yesterday, pulling an ex-Peter Jones fridge!!

The reason they keep on is because he business is more than viable and perhaps now with the greedy snouts out of the trough it can be allowed to keep some of the money it makes

In the You Tube clip when the trailer is dropped on the road there was a man walking in front of the trailer while on the phone was Toby Ovens the boss.
How much for the crane, loss of phone or electric to the village.
The driver turns his back while being filmed.
Following a car sat nav maybe or the locals waved him down to stop him but he continued on.?

Nobby Clark from Western Super Mud is the driver he was trying to deliver to Mrs Ruby’s farm in Saltash Cornwall loaded with “chips” ,normally deliver from the Plymouth side, down a lane with a sign "unsuitable for HGV "(the only way in) Only this time he was coming from the other direction, where he’d normally turn right after leaving MRS Ruby’s to get back on the A38 , a car was parked and he couldn’t make the left turn,so he carried on thinking there would be a cross roads to turn around at,well the rest is history as you can see in the film.

Not sure if it was true or not, but a foreign truck got stuck in a width restriction down a narrow lane near Sherborne Dorset.
It had bollards and he kept trying to drive the truck through to get out and burst all the tyres on the unit and trailer.Clutch wrecked.

There was a bit about this on the Big Lorry Blog. IIRC the driver missed his turn and ended up in that village.

In my ignorance then, why did the driver not stop when he realised that he was getting into a bad situation? And why did he not reverse out? Maybe he did, I dont know. I do feel sorry for him though

Think i read in commercial motor that it was a dodgy financial product that done for them the 1st time. Think it was in interest rate swap.
