i do between £430 and £580(in the bank) per week lulu. Some earn a lot more, some earn less… Its a bit of a ‘how long is a piece of string’ question to be honest. I dont think you will get a definitive answer.

That dont sound to bad are you doing plenty of hours plus time away? I hope you dont mind the question i dont mean to be intrusive.

£430 is for 5 days monday to friday(4 nights out)
£580 is for 7days sunday to saturday and being weekended.
I dont do that many hours to be honest but my job can be very dirty and dusty
Those figures include my quarterly bonus of £250

depends on where you live in germany the money is crap but in belgi and holland is ok but if you live in the uk its not to good cos of euro against the pound but if you live over here its good money .

In my experience, anybody wanting big bucks first and foremost should stay well away from doing international work. The people who do it, and stay doing it are nearly always those who do it for the way of life, not the cash, because there is very little money in it nowadays. Obviously there will be exceptions, companies who do specialist work etc, but for those doing normal general haulage, they have to directly compete not only with other western European transport companies, but also all those from eastern Europe. The company I work for now, and have done since passing my test at 21 about two and a half years ago pay me a weekly salery and 4 nights out on top of that, regardless of what I do. When I’m in the UK I always just work Monday-Friday doing ferry freight but doing international it could be 5, 6 or 7 days out and the money is no different, but the standard of work and living is so much better and easier that I’d sooner do that. Last week for example I left the yard at 10:30 Sunday morning for Dover and had two drops in Switzerland and reloaded out of eastern France back for the UK and got home Thursday and then did a job out of the dock on Friday which ruined an up until then great week. I did about 3400km which isn’t bad either way and my total working time (time on duty with a card in, which is all I go by) was round about 75 hours. My take home pay is in the region of £430 per week, which is fine by me, obviously more would be nice but like I’ve said, we’re in a global economy and have to compete with the rest and I’d rather be on £400 doing Euro work than on £600 doing UK work and the way of life that that entails by being on the road all week here.

Well said eldor. Thats what i should have written
I could easily earn another £100 a week on uk work for stobarts but you have to put up with all the crap that goes with it

that is ok if you live in the uk but a lot dont nowadays i am home evry friday night and dont start till monday . we never start on a sunday and only at times run home on a sat . the money i am on it works out what you are on in the uk . at the end of the day my bills get paid i drink beer and save up as well . and still have money in my pocket at the end of it and you been driveing for a couple of years . so you got a lot of ex then i see . you have a good day

UK £90 a day and £27 Night Out.

Continental £85 a day and £24 a night out.

Personally I would always be happier dropping £8 and being over the water.

so you did 75 hours in a week so you had you did 15 hours the next week and had the rest off .

What?

look at what you put and see how it looks you did that work and 75 hours

I think you are confusing driving time and duty time Boost.

Duty time = 75hrs
Driving time = 47hrs which means no more than 43 hrs driving next week.

I completely agree. It is a way of life rather than a maximum-income opportunity. Personally I massively prefer continental work.

The roads are far better, truckstops are superb, and serve the quality of food you would never find on the road in the UK, you can get a shower anywhere, people treat you with far more respect, the scenery is beautiful, the weather is generally better, I could go on and on…

I earn fairly good money as I do the specialised work you mentioned elsewhere, but I could earn far more driving for Tesco rather than doing a trip to Spain or Italy or somesuch.

I would last about a week as a shopping trolley driver…

I couldn’t agree more.

I’m on a salary, in the range already mentioned, for a contracted 6 day week, although I usually only do 5. I start work on Sunday morning, catch a ferry across the North Sea, Sunday afternoon and I’m normally home Thursday evening.
Like Boost, all my bills are paid, I have beer in the fridge and money at the end of the month, not month at the end of the money.

Last week I had a saunter round the south of Germany.
The week before, it was northern Switzerland.
(Saunter = 2500 - 3000 km in 5 days).

I went to Bratislava last week, Gdansk a fortnight before that and Barcelona about a month ago.

In those three trips, not once did I wait in a queue of standing traffic. Every time I ship out through Caen I know I will get to Castets and it will take me 9 hours 50 minutes.

I loaded out of Austria about a month or so ago. When I turned up, the transport manager said “Look, I’m really sorry but the load won’t be ready for half an hour. There’s a toilet and a shower through that door, and coffee if you want”

All immaculately clean and beautiful. And free.

You just couldn’t imagine it happening if you loaded out of Thurrock.

Reading the above is why I wouldnt mind a crack Euro work, But people say I am mad for thinking it,
But who in the North West (I am in Manchester) does Euro work?
