The problem is the regs are there as a limit to safeguard drivers and the public. When the lawd were been drawn up the 10 hour drive twice a week and the two 15 hour spreads were put in to help make them flexible…the problem is to many firms plan to max them hours and theres no margin for error and its the driver who loses out.

Totally agree with you. And especially come Friday night when the routes go home and the lorry is not needed on a Saturday…
Laws were put into place to protect business, not to keep tired drivers off the road!
The big transport firms know they can’t get away with running night and day, so the smaller firms and one man bands were able to take advantage and offer customers a better service.
AFAIK the best example of this is the 13hr driving day in Canada, it allows a journey between the big cities to be done in 13hr increments, either a round trip or a one way leg by a single driver or team. It protects the large hauliers.
In Europe it used to be 8hrs a day, then as traffic increased it went up to 9/10hrs and now with WTD you have the ■■■■■■■■ that is POA, it is all to protect the interest of big business.
Big business have politicians in their pockets and they change or make up new laws to suit them.
