Some one has started an E Petition to change the speed limit for trucks on A roads - see this link if you want to sign it.
pointless, but i’ve signed it anyway.
but i think we should have the same speed limits on all vehicles.

it’s about speed limits, not cigarettes. 
There are some A roads that are good enough to be doing more than 40 in a truck but I also know a few others where doing more than the limit would be dangerous.
The planners I know want the driver to be doing the speed limit as much as possible and one suggested I could get away with doing 50 everywhere, A roads included.
Yes, vehicles are probably better now at stopping than they were when those rules were bought into force but I still think trucks should do 40 on A roads.
Saying that, it doesn’t matter much anyway as I know plenty of trucks that drive on the limiter in most places, A roads and all.

40 is plenty for trucks on A roads, if you think all vehicles should have the same speed limit you need a car to run into your car at 40 then a truck and im sure you will notice the diffrence
A petition to get the A roads and most of the other roads in a better state of repair would be a better idea !
Won’t sign it. As much as I don’t like the 40 limit and generally break it by a few notches, if it was raised to 50 we would just end up with so called ‘proffesional’ hgv drivers clogging it on the limiter everywhere. Its a well know fact that most drivers can’t be trusted to drive at appropriate speeds so encouraging them to go even faster is daft. Not all single carriageways with the ‘A’ classification are suitable.
Totally agree! Passenger carrying vehicles over 7.5T can do 50 legally on a single carriageway, why can’t a truck? Hey it’d work in their favour, Trucks going a bit faster = more fuel duty? T.

^THIS^ But we then have the same British “I am gonna be at the front” mentality. So There’ll always be one at least, who tries to overtake.

Maby you should be partitioning to have that limit reduced then?
Doesnt mean its safe and most passenger vehicles are no more then 18 tonnes GVW trucks are rearly less then 32 or 40/44 for artics
