E-petition a waste of time. Trying to get parliament to debate something they have already discussed in very recent years. I’m unable to find the final outcome though.
Agree with a page1 poster who said they should take into account the width of the road and general layout. Many SC roads are certainly NOT suited to 44 tonne trucks meeting each other at more than 80mph. But many modern bypass etc. roads are wider with good clear vision and few junctions and properties, these I think are definitely suitable for trucks to meet each at 100mph in relative safety.
I really can’t see what all the fuss is about. If a drivers has his wits about him, why shouldn’t he do 70 on a m/way. Singles are a different matter though. We didn’t have as many m/ways when I drove over there, but we could get along with the rest of the traffic when we were on them. Having said that; when we were fully freighted (32 ton in those days) it was steady as she goes for singles and some duals too. As people have said before, if you can’t do all your work in one day, that’s too bad. Timing for roads is unpredictable, always has been and always will be. If someone in the office tries to time you to the last minute, it’s nothing for the driver to get stressed out about, it’s down to the office.
I’m happy to get around at or under the limit all day. We’ve been back for holidays and behind a lorry doing 40 or 50 plenty of times. Am I bothered… course not. No one’s so important that they have get past the lorry at all costs. At the end of the day it don’t make much difference, even if you’re a really important company rep’ that just has to be in front. Driving to the conditions is what I’ve always done and speed limits are part of the conditions.
