A couple of weeks ago I ran in to an old German mate who was just coming back from Scotland to Hull for the ferry, as we talked he said ‘your country is like a bin’ There is rubbish everywhere! He was on about the verge along most of the main roads in the UK, anyway, long story short, as I drove down the A1 I started looking at the verge, and he was not wrong, mile after mile of plastic bags, packaging, blown tyres, bits of cars, bits of trucks, the odd mattress, the majority of trees and bushes looked as if they had been decorated for Nightmare before Christmas. I was quite shocked when I actually saw how bad it was, how did we get to the point of countless miles of rubbish along our roads and not noticing it? I never saw anything this bad in Europe.
Out of sight out of mind. I do a bit of walking and cycling on rural roads its the same everywhere. I sometimes pick up on my way back to the car though it makes little difference.
Somewhere along the A1 N/B between Stamford and Grantham there’s a sailing dinghy dumped in the lay-by and close to it I assume is the trailer it came on.
I doubt that the floods the other month touched that neck of the woods
In what used to be our beautiful valley in Wales, our main tourist route is a disgrace. Rubbish strewn along both sides of the road, which increases every Monday afternoon. Why Mondays? Read on.
No, not from the MacDonalds customers who chuck their rubbish out as they finish their meal, although that does contribute to the mess.
The trouble is our recycling lorries. They finish their collections in Blaenavon, then drive like fury down the valley to the tip, as the job is “job and knock”. I’ve got no problem with that, but they leave the side flaps open on the lorries, so lots of the stuff they’ve just collected ends up on the verge and in the trees!
And of course, the cash-strapped council cannot afford to pick it up again, so every week it gets worse and worse. Quite what our thousands of tourist visitors think of us!
The OP’s mate was right; our country is a bin!
Luckily, now that we have shed the yoke of Europe from our shoulders, the proud citizens of Britain can clean up their own country once more…

I seen it getting winched onto a trailer yesterday and the white 7.5t next to it has a police aware sticker now too. On the Southbound side I see that the little silver Fiesta is still in amongst the bushes down the embankment.

I was walking to the shop earlier and a crisp poke blew past me. Absolute shambles britain is. I blame brexit. Had we stayed in the EU non of this would happen.
its the illegals to blame.
once they get locked in a trailer for the duration of the crossing all they have to eat is packets of crisps, quavers and monster munch.
by the time they hop off at the first layby they find, then by that time they are addicted to them and have to continuously keep feeding their newly acquired habit and having lived where they came from without litter bins or toilets, then habits of a lifetime prevail.
most european countries are squeaky clean compared to britain, they also have superior roads, cheap ■■■■,and booze…i wonder why?
The A1 is…
Now just a corridor of litter from London to Edinburgh.
The lay-by’s are disgusting.

The Ozzies have a TV campaign, maybe we could do the same.
hey ■■■■■■
If you murder someone here you get 300 community service.
They should send the killers out litter picking.
Caught overpeeding in a lorry…jailed.
Always knew when I was getting close to Calais cos the amount of litter on the roadside was increasing by the kilometre . Must have a clean car/truck for the crossing home.

What’s there to be surprised about?
Every year countries around Europe have Clean Up Days where people join together to clean up the ares of where they live.
The link below is for Latvia (population 2m people).
talkas.lv/en/the-big-clean-up/
Some stats:
22 April 2017
2000 registered points of action, participants – more than 200 000.
Waste collected in Riga – 45 tons, a lot of other activities besides waste collection – planting trees, making flower-beds, etc.
23 April 2016
Record-high number of participants – more than 190 000
1750 points of action.
Waste collected – 1989 tons of waste, collected waste sorted in Riga
In contrast a similar movement in the UK.

Stats:
Last year, more than 560,000 people took part and this year we are aiming to get 600,000
If you look at the stats based on population it becomes clear that there is no interest in the public to keep things clean or tidy.

That was removed today, just the 7.5tonner left.
Might have been dozy moving all his worldly chetalls to Spain, but fancied one last weekend in a layby close to home

in Manchester we have recycling bins like every one else.its not hard work paper in one glass and cans in the other.
yet the amount of bins you see with all kinds of thigs sticking out the top .like a toaster and microwave in the paper bin. or treetrunks and branches .
if people cant sort out recycling what chance have we got.
yet it doesn’t help when the binman can obviously see its not recyclable. so he leaves it and eventually its strewn across the road.
rather than the binman empty it into the general waste truck. or is that against the unuions rules?
