What duff motors have you driven? I have to say I never have, a few long in the tooth ones that wouldn’t win at Truckfest but no dogs whatsoever. Am I lucky or are trucks and operators improving?
K reg ERF E14 with big cam ■■■■■■■ lump.
Proper nail but would pull the Eiffel Tower over.
And no limiter so 75mph with 70’ of steel
Any iveco I have ever had the displeasure of being sat in. I would have said drive but that hints at being able to have some sort of control.
Mercedes-Benz axor 03-61reg both rigids & tractors, feels like you’re driving a brick…!
Old Daf CF the accelerator stuck to the floor.
Iveco Eurocargo rigid, it had the build quality of a fisher price toy , the throw a six to start pudding stick gear selection system and it was only eighteen months old.

I drove an 07 8w demonstrator and liked it Despite the fact it was a slap through 9 speed.
Ford cargo rigid 18t with a 4 over4 gearbox what a joke couldn’t pull a greasy sausage off a plate.Empty on motorways down to 30 mph uphill scary as (zb) and like sitting in a coal bunker with a window.
The most memorable of far too many to list.
Sed Ack 200 rigid, wouldn’t pull you out of bed.
Argos/Homebase Daf CF75’s that have been round the clock a couple of times too many.
As above, anything with an Iveco badge.
Daf 2300’s, gutless heaps.
Everything that had a 180 Gardner, with no power steering and no clutch assistance.
Corby based 4 series Scania that jumped out of half the gears.
Scania 80 ‘Super’ no less, 3 leaps and you’d done the M1, bloody boneshaker.
Volvo FL7 drawbar, took underpowered to a whole new level.
Volvo FL10, not much better.
Mercedes 1625 and all Powerliners, gearbox from hell.
Oh and anything made in the last 10 years with Satan’s patented ZF auto box.
Current 440 MAN, wrongly labelled, should be 044, my Mrs’ little Citroen has more guts, and less likely to spend half its life in the workshops.
Bloody dozens more.
old ford cargo(was back in 1998 and it was a F reg then and pride of the fleet) problem was this cargo was a 7.5tonne sleeper cab but with a 809 engine(90hp) and 4 speed gearbox…
best was with same company a very knackered old cargo but it had a 170 turbo engine in it and went like clappers still a 7.5tonne but usually well overweight with 6 tonne in the back but still went like clappers like that(back when vosa was only ever in the same place at usually the same time and that old cargo was a night run from london to hull
All this talk of Cargos reminds me how much your day was slowed down if you had to follow a Cargo concrete mixer; Weren’t the 6ws something crap like 215bhp?
Drove a hired cargo 1715 hiab. Worst and most gutless lorry apart from an auto Sudden Accident i had the displeasure to Drive. 6 wheeler auto flatbed, in Cornwall for Bodmin Blocks many moons ago. Now that was an experience
HINO.
designed by japanese sadists.
Iveco 130E15 with alternator drive fridge, well loaded with the front compartment on freeze you had to turn the fridge off just to be able to crawl up the hill on the M2 from the Medway at 20mph.
Went to a place in Hemel Hempstead for an assessment to see how long I’d need for lessons for my HGV class 1. They used Ford Cargos, and I swear that if you even thought about braking, the entire thing would lock solid, like an emergency stop. Ended up going to a guy in Hoddesdon with a DAF 2100 which was far superior, both in terms of the motor, and the actual training.
Drove a Mercedes Benz Axor for Morrisons years back, I thought they all had the EPS gearbox, and was dismayed to find it was an 8 speed manual with the slap across box. Drove quite a few of them, and the gearboxes were pigs, the amount of times you’d knock them across the range and go for 5th and get 7th.
Do Moxy dumptrucks count? Christ they were bad.
Seems that the ole Ivecos are getting a bit of stick.Cant be the only one that thought they wasnt that bad . . . can i ?
Drove a couple of Eurotechs in the past, a 340 with the Eaton t/s, then a 380
Apart from the minor niggles like bits falling off, air dryers failing and electrical fires i thought they were ok.Looking back, when i was driving them,it was the best job i ever had and i would have been happy driving a Polski Fiat at the time
Anything iveco, there just cheap and nasty.
An 18t euro cargo or what ever there called has got to be the worst. No air suspension, everything shakes and rattles and if the mirrors haven’t fallen off yet you wont be able to see anything anyway as the wind deflector is wider than the box on the back so you can’t even see the back of your truck. Just shocking cheap pieces of crap I have had the misfortune of driving.

I’ve never had any particular problem with them over any other make. If it was the choice of a yard full of every make of modern 18 tonner I’d be perfectly happy to take the key out of a hat.
I maybe wouldn’t take an Iveco 7.5 tonner if I was going down country lanes as the mirrors seem to stick out excessively, that would be the only reason.

If you think Ivecos small motors are ■■■■ ,you obviously have never driven a Commer/Dodge “Commando”
