Duff Motors

All this talk of Cargos reminds me how much your day was slowed down if you had to follow a Cargo concrete mixer; Weren’t the 6ws something crap like 215bhp?

not in derbyshire!.. most cargo 6 wheelers were ■■■■■■■ l10 250’s which were retro fitted with jake brakes and a lot of the locals had the top end set up often and tweeked on the pump as well, in fact in their day not a lot could live with them on payload or power!

Pimpdaddy:
Mercedes-Benz axor 03-61reg both rigids & tractors, feels like you’re driving a brick…!

I drove an 07 8w demonstrator and liked it :open_mouth: Despite the fact it was a slap through 9 speed.

You must be 5 feet tall & skinny to like driving axors. Im 6’5" long legged & find it hard to touch the brakes & not knock your knees to ■■■■ on the steering wheel. Even the EC11s & ECX I used to drive for lynx were better… Best motor for comfort & space whilst driving for me is the TGA/X, lift the bottom bunk & pull both levers under the seat, push back as far as you want…

Mammoth Major twin steer, took 2 of us to steer that mistake ( but we were only 14 at the time)
AEC Mandator 40 mph flat out ( big adventure for a 15 year old though)
Seddons and ERF from the late seventies operated by a crowd out of St Helens and a small yard near Enfield where I had the pleasure of night trunking occasionally.
Pickfords furniture vans based on 79/80 bedfords
Volvo FL6
Daf 2100 non turbo Enfield to Reddich night trunk for Halfords.

AEC mandator, no heater, no power steering, seat loose, clutch knackered, door hanging off.
Mecedes 18t with an elastic band connecting foot to accelorator pedal
FL 6 with drivers seat loose
Anything with BEDFORD on the front
Ford cargo artic with 6 speed gearbox which struggled with an empty flatbed going down hill.
Anything with IVECO on the front
Of the “modern trucks” Mercedes AZOR

Swedish Bedfords, uncomfortable nothing good to say, almost as bad as the air cooled Iveco I once had the pleasure of driving.

As far as old stuff is concerned,
Leyland Terrier,
Ford cargo, particularly ones fitted with that air cooled V6 Deutz ■■■■■■■■■■■■■.
Renault Midliner, WTF was that all about?
Renault R340 tractor,
Dodge 50 series, has to be one of the all time failures!
Dodge 100 series not much better.

cieranc:
K reg ERF E14 with big cam ■■■■■■■ lump.

Proper nail but would pull the Eiffel Tower over.
And no limiter so 75mph with 70’ of steel

she sounds a good un

Accountant specced Iveco autos 12Esummat, It Vibrates Everything Comes Off is most apt.
A scanny 124l M something or other, it was a nice motor in it’s heyday, but the one arm bandit gear selection, slow suspension, no middle axle, make it only suitable as a part time shunter and as the dreaded spare truck.

5 pot MAN f90
Seddon Atkinson !!!

Agree with Madbazs’ comment about “Accountant specced” kit; Our Bell dumptrucks are a good example as only the accountants lot think they’re great; The drivers hate them, fitters hate them and even quarry manager thinks the Volvos that preceded them were better.
Our Volvo FE7s are another example; £10k per truck cheaper than Daf CF but have been unreliable as hell in 4 years.

If you think Ivecos small motors are [zb] ,you obviously have never driven a Commer/Dodge “Commando”

I can tell you from personal experience that a Commer Walk-Thru was even worse than the Commando. The seals on the sliding doors perished in very short order letting the full blast of winter into the cab. Plus no heater or demister. You had to scrape the ice off the indide of the screen. It was also hit or miss if the engine cover fitted.
Eeee…when I were a lad…

The first artic i drove was a bit of a dog, knew it wasnt a 100% legal at the time but never kicked up a fuss because i was desperate for experience.

Yep, the mixers had the air-cooled Deutz most commonly for some reason - yet all the tipper boys had either the 2424 (■■■■■■■ 240) or if you were really lucky the 2428 (■■■■■■■ 290 LTA). Earlier versions were indeed kak, with the 170 horse Perkins or Deutz. ■■■■■■■ made the Cargo a much better motor, but you still either love em’ or hate 'em. The 1715 rigid with the overblown Dover engine was the single most stupid decision Ford/Iveco ever made putting that lump into anything bigger than a 13 tonner. 10 tonner at best. . .

O I’ve just remembered I had some clapped out seddon atkinson on British gypsum for B R S in the early 90’s what a joke.I stopped half way up junction 1 on the m5 once and when I pulled away it was bouncing that much the front grill came up,I went round the island with it up and got out when I was on the level to put it down and also the first time I backed under a trailer with it the radio fell out and hit me on the head when I hit the pin

Had a G10 for doing a coal round, ideal for that job as you didn’t need a heater to keep warm  !!
Worst truck i ever drove was a seddon 200, bruised the base of my spine as the ride was that hard. Also had a 400e38 iveco on hire once that turned out to be a development motor for iveco uk, fell apart at every chance it could, obviously testing to see how sh.it they really were, also nice to see with the stralis they haven’t improved.
