If a driver finishes his shift and goes home and someone moves his lorry through the night, it doesn’t matter. At a roadside check they would look at a printout or download the card, any missing mileage would be the bosses problem.

Workshop cards or company cards are not a replacement for driver cards in the depot. Workshop cards are for the calibration of digital units and held by an authorised technician. Company cards are used to download a VU or to lock in or lock out Data.

It doesn’t matter how many pieces of paper you carry in Europe, whether they are affidavit’s or ransom notes, the only papers required are the CE Authorisation and a signed and typed Attestation to say the driver has not worked since xday and started work again on xday. Pierre, Fritz or Jose do not care who drove the vehicle, unless of course the vehicle was not at home and it moved 20 yards during a weekend rest.

Trade Plates do not carry any sort of insurance, they only cover the lack of excise duty.
