Your theory is correct in internet land sat behind a PC but in the ‘‘real world’’ of what actually happens nobody follows a 2 second rule when driving through roadworks at 40mph especially when someone isn’t doing anywhere near the actual limit (rightly or wrongly). Its follow my leader bumper to bumper stylee.
Tripe, tosh and totally wrong.
Have you driven through roadworks recently? I’m guessing not
Is it any wonder we get a bad reputation when you see drivers using their wagons as a battering ram! I hope somebody in the higher chain of command at Waitrose see’s this video and tracks the idiot down. That’s just a fatal accident waiting to happen.
Some of the posters though need a word with themselves, ‘ajt’ is your arse jealous of the virtual diarrhea your keyboard fingers produce and ‘LHD’ having seen your recent drama queen dash cam footage you are not well placed to comment on anyones driving ability for the forseeable.

Your guess is also - wrong. I drive through the M6 roadworks North of Birmingham and/or the M1 roadworks Chesterfield-Sheffield several times every week. I see all the screwdrivers gaily tailgating one another (or the poor sods in their Micras etc) for mile after mile, with much braking and the occasional “near miss” every time, without fail. I set myself a nice, safe distance from the vehicle in front and just let them get on with it. Yes, one or two (and in reality it really is only one or two) chancers will dive into the gap, but it makes only a couple of seconds’ difference to me. By the time we reach the other end of the roadworks the tailgaters are usually ahead of me by at least a minute - sometimes two or three. I hang my head in shame.
A lot of folk on here seem very fond of banging on about what safe drivers they are and all the terrible driving they see other drivers doing and how awful it is.
Jimmy Savile used to like banging on about all the kids charities work he did, just saying…

Exactly…ask most drivers about their driving and they will tell you they are good and that is half the problem.
Some of the idiots we see everyday actually believe they are doing no wrong.I came across it so many times a few years ago when doing regular assessments.
Oh and some good news.I heard from a very reliable source today the driver in the clip has been tracked down and will be dealt with by the company and the police.
Maybe there is a God.

Just wanted to see the playback from my new camera so I’ve uploaded this as it’s the only relatively interesting thing that I’ve seen since I started using it.
It seems all too common on this stretch of road. youtu.be/SwU1dRYMjRc

I can’t read this too well as the lack of self-awareness detector, on the desk next to me, has just exploded.

What a pair of knobs…
Just my opinion no offence intended.
No sorry my fingers don’t normally come into contact with my arse much. Your clearly more knowledgeable on that front than me it would appear
Having been through the road works both on the M5 and M6 several times last weeks, I can say that the car drivers are the muppets in most instances, they are unable to maintain the speed limit be that 40 or 50 mph , they slow down and speed up they rarely check their mirrors, or realise that if there are trucks going faster than they are, it’s quite likely that they are doing or trying to do the speed limit in place, HGV’s as we know have a calibrated odometers/tachographs where as cars do not, some of the cretins seem to take a pride in slowing down HGV’s or cutting them up I had a belly full of them IMO it’s not trucks drivers in general that are the problem
I agree with your frustrations Tommy but WE are supposed to be the professionals whereas your average car driver isn’t, so it’s up to us to drive safely and correctly at all times. I agree that it can be annoying to follow someone who’s speed fluctuates but again there’s no law stating that we must travel at the posted speed at all times. My advice is as always, chill out, ease off and if you like take the moral high ground, at the end of the day they’ve probably increased your working day by less than a minute.
If anyone drives to close to my car and trying to get me to break the limit i drop to below the speed limit by about 5mph.that usually sorts it out and if it doesnt ill really hold them up
Tommy T.I have also seen cars that will move in to an empty lane to slow down a Lgv that they think is going faster than they are.
In the M5/6 average speed road works.
They slam on their brakes when they see the yellow posts with the cameras on.
As they have no idea what average means and panic.

I had that too , some (zb) idiot who must won their licence in a lucky bag at the DSA lucky draw, As i seriously doubt they passed a driving test,If they are stupid enough to pull in front of a truck and try and slow you down , But fortunately the outer lane like their head aat the time, had( zb) all in it , so i over took them (the 40 to 50 bit on the M5) which imo is a daft set up , and i doubt that those average speed cameras can work in that section

that would depend on the truck that you were driving, If something like a AXOR or Premium (older style) then it could make more of a difference

Unlikely it will add on as much time as having an accident would.
Agree car drivers are mostly muppets but, that’s why truck drivers take an extended test because they should be better at driving in all ways.
Considering the poor standard of car drivers that should be easy although there are those who still fail to achieve even this level of skill.

Monday night through the A1 roadworks around Leeming Bar to Scotch Corner. I left at least 2 seconds. Did when I went down the M1 to Northampton on the Friday night as well. Far more relaxing than driving up someone’s chuff.
