Last night going northbound through the roadworks on the m6 j16, noticed in my mirror an audi in lane 3 going way over the 40mph limit only to dart across the three lanes to pull in inches behind a truck in lane 1 as it went past the end camera obviously so it couldn’t read the plate…never seen it done before…
James Bond.
See it all the time, could you be arsed though?
When I was driving nights I used to see it almost every shift. I may even have moved over to lane 2 with no indication when it was really quiet and inadvertently left them exposed to the camera when they dived behind me and didn’t react to my movement quickly enough. Not saying it happened, not saying it didn’t so nothing to see here. Carry on.
Some folk say that going through each set of cameras in a different lane is one way around getting nicked, maybe easy in a car but not always possible in a truck, I got done a few weeks ago in the roadworks at Kings Lynn, 03.00 Monday morning, no one else about, I saw the roadworks and speed camera warning, expecting it to be 40mph at the worst, turns out to be 30, and I was doing 37!
Good job I was clear of points and it was not an outrageous speed, so I have just done a Speed Awarenness Course, well worth the £80 and better than 3 points and 100 note fine!

That was the case when they were first introduced but it was quickly fixed and now it doesn’t matter.
The ones I took notice of the other day on the A1 were facing the other way taking pictures of rear plates. Maybe its because they finally figured out ones facing traffic don’t catch motorcyclists and people like the Audi driver.

Problem being that the plank in the Audi will now be diving across in front of a handy truck and positioning himself just a few yards in front while passing the camera. At least when he was nipping in behind, the only person inconvenienced was him…
the ones on the M62 cant be working yet as nobody takes any notice of them at all, nearly all the cars are still doing 70+ all the way through ( when its not stood still)
The m62 Manchester are still redundant and being wired into place.

I was wondering that the other day, makes sense.

How’s retirement at the mo Neil if you don’t mind my asking, still wearing spandex & working the yummy mummies?
I would of thought the average speed was worked out from set of cameras to the next, not from the first to the last so I am sure said drivers would get a ticket anyway. I am pretty sure they are set to ACPO standards so you could quite easily get away with doing 56 in a 50 and 45 in a 40 without fear of a ticket. Most numptys do 25 in the 40 average near the Metrocentre, boils my ■■■■.
Many moons ago, my Mrs worked in the filling station at Moto Trowel, they have traffic officers based there and they told her that the average speed cameras only works if you stay in the same lane. I don’t know if it is was true, or if technology has come a long now that makes this info obsolete.
Tbh I never had the ■■■■■■■■ to test it out, but if it is true moving to lane 2, so his plate is visible wouldn’t make any difference.

I did,
Came from back with highspeed and stood next to Trailerlegs when approached Speed Camera. I shocked and braked when he braked, and Camera read his Number Plate.
Was no problem as no Vehicle behind us,but he approached soo fast and braked soo hard that i expected a Problem.
Sorry for that

It’s great mate and yes to both the other questions. Plus delivering Personal Training to people as well. It’s all good.

The average speed cameras have always been able to calculate the speed regardless of lane changes. However, in order to be used for prosecution purposes, they must be approved by the Home Office and must be operated in accordance with that approval. Now the Home Office is very conservative (small ‘c’) body, and they originally decreed that the cameras could only be operated in fixed pairs, with one camera at the start of the measured zone and one at the other end - so each lane had to be treated as a separate piece of road. But that changed several years ago, and now they have approval to operate as a “network” rather than fixed pairs. As a result, changing lanes has no effect on the cameras, and they can cover the whole stretch of roadworks rather than only a few dedicated “hot zones” spaced along it.

None of them work.
There are still some numpty’s who bomb on between average speed cameras, then slow down as they reach the next camera, obviously don’t understand the meaning of average speed!

Some of them are actually being quite clever and only slowing as they approach the camera so they can match their speed with a lorry, and use the larger vehicle to hide their numberplate from the camera. Allegedly.
