Did I really read a post saying a driver parks up when it hits -4? Jeezo don’t move to Scotland, your wages would take a hefty drop.

There’s drivers, and there’s screwdrivers. . . I’m seriously amazed at the things some people do. . .

So you begin turning a corner at low speed and hit black ice. You’re heading towards a collision with the kerb. Do you hit the abs or accelerator and try and power out of the skid?I don’t do black ice.
I refuse to drive if I suspect black ice.
I care not what they think - I am not paid to be a hero.
“Boss it’s minus 4 and I’m pulling over.”

entry speed - it doesn’t matter how good you are, if you arrive too fast then there’ll be nothing you can do
I agree, good advice.

Water freezes at 0 degrees C btw.
In that situation, assuming speed permitted, would be to give it a dab of the handbrake and slew the car round so it hit the curb on the drivers side. Preferably on both wheels. Little Man is then safe. If the car is damaged, its a bit of metal, if the kid is damaged its a whole lot worse.
All depends on your wheel arrangement though. I have nice big tyre sidewalls to bounce of a curb with. If you are running super low profiles, you run more risks in that maneuver.
I was literally going a couple of mph. Speed was negligable. Distance to bouncing off the kerb was minimal too so not much reaction time. Had full right lock on to try and steer out of it whilst on and off the brakes to no effect. You really do feel like a passenger once the ABS kicks in. I do have chunky sidewall protection on my boots and thats probably why the rim didnt break and just left a scratch.
I think a little bit of wee might have dribbled out of my “daughter” as I was giving it the “Holy ■■■■”!
Found that driving around about 0c is a hell of a lot worse than driving at -10c+
the local roads round here in villages are graded once they get 6inch or so snow then its like driving on concrete.

ABS doesn’t work on ice. If the ABS kicks in then I fail to see why you would be a “passenger”. The ABS kicks in to stop the wheels locking giving you more control. Only it won’t work on ice/mud/loose surfaces.
