Market-Leading Package
We offer a minimum starting wage of £9.85 per hour rising to £10.90 if you work days. If you work nights it’s £11.62 rising to £12.86 per hour. Some of our Drivers say this is the most they’ve ever earned, even when they were doing long-haul. When you’re earning good money over shorter distances, life is sweet: you’ll have more time for yourself and the family. What’s more, we’ll give you four weeks’ paid holiday (rising to five), plus paid Bank Holidays. Even better.
aldi more time for yourself and family .absolute drivel .treat drivers like garbage spent time working for them on nightshift .no security lone working in nightmare areas. wrapping pallets till your arms fall off. watched by a team of supervisors and managers doing nowt .short shift long shift in operation meaning long weekend work for normal rate.goodluck with that shower of no users
I would defo second this as to why they are always advertising. You will get more time at home. You will be to knackerd to do anything with that time tho.
karl67:
hourly rates have lowered with the new contracts and now more inline with other supermarkets.
We all knew the old contracts would change oneday, it was mad what you could earn, with sunday, overtime rates and ever seventh week off then working it as overtime.
The 7th week was called “grab a grand week”
I worked for Tesco a few years back on that old contract, best job I ever had till they shut the RDC and Stobarts took over and I left. You’re right it was grab a grand week …
Was only there a few years unfortunately, I’d worked for one of the big oil companies several years previous (…also contracted out) and the Tesco job paid more than the petrol tankers… and it was easier too !!!
Regarding the original post … Waitrose have been recruiting down in Kent, I know a few lads at Bracknell who’ve been there for a good few years and say they’re good to work for, don’t know if that’s any help at all ?
Unfortunatly not mate, in central belt of Scotland.
To expand it out if anyone knows a good employer glasgow/edinburgh thats not supermarkets?
The supermarket class 1 near me would be the ones on the M8 corridor if anyone has info on who is better than the others.
Have you considered mossend? Hovis drivers don’t really do much work but I dont know what the pay is like. Norberts drivers seem happy with their pay. Neither are appealing to me any more due to low rates and commuting distance but full time might be better.
Or if you want to go all out for money then I would strongly recommend blue arrow. £11 S/E rate with plenty of hours and its 99% trunking. They need backshift/nightshift drivers who have no life and want to earn £600+. It is a cushy job but backshift no longer suited me and i got fed up of spending an hour and half in my car every day. Plus the poor standard of drivers from a certain other agency put me in the position where i was getting close to dealing with them using unofficial means
Iceland on the Irish contract trunking deckers to cairnryan. It really is an easy job but there can be a lot of waiting around at either end. Occasionally they might ask you to do booker instead if volumes are down but that is all pallet work and normally 1 hit then back. There are 3 agencies in there, 2 on the Irish work but I would go with blue arrow. Never any hassles or pressure with them and its all block booked the previous week. You tell them what days you want to work and there is never any arguement. The only problem is getting dayshift unless you want booker work. It really is easy money but I got sick of spending an hour and a half of my time travelling there and back. There is an assessment to pass but its nothing to worry about. None of the push/pull nonsense and both assessors are drivers, not pen pushers. The Irish contract is all 63 plate DAF CFs pulling 16’2 deckers that were built last year. All you do is drive with a swap at cairnryan. You don’t normally even hook up at the start of the shift or the end

I’m working out of Aldi Chelmsford for agency, I’m on £12 p/hr don’t want the temp to perm as I only want 3/4 days a week, if I do 4 days I normally earn around £600, they are looking for 30 full time drivers 10 weeks temp to perm and earnings are £35-45k p/a.
If I knew how to upload an image I’d post the ad in this weeks Chelmsford paper for drivers in Aldi.
What you forgot to mention was there are now 3 different contracts once perm. You get treated like muck and will have to break your back.
And nights you have to wrap and load both of your runs lol!
here here mate treat you like crap .the most ignorant arrogant people I have ever worked for .health and safety does not apply to drivers .not interested in you at all only load getting to their stores

Well all this has really put me off applying for the new goldthorpe rdc…I thought it was supposed to be a good job.
Nothing wrong with Aldi work, yes you do load & unload yourself but your left alone to get on with it, no hassle from anyone, nice kit and new trailers.
Aldi Chelmsford have taken on loads of warehouse staff & loaders so more of the trailers are getting loaded before you get back from your 1st, they are introducing new shifts, so stores get 2/3 deliveries a day plus I enjoy the banter with the totty in the stores and it keeps me fit instead of tramping up & down motorways all day long sitting on my Harris.
Easiest job I’ve had in years and I’ve been on the road for 30+ years now doing allsorts.

I certainly don’t doubt you, i’d love to get in at my local Aldi depot.
This type of work is always going to attract a divide in opinion & will always be a culture shock to many drivers accustomed to having everything done for them beyond opening the doors/curtain. Quite simply, some drivers are better at it & more suited than others. You’ll get some drivers getting themselves stressed out over wrapping a few pallets, whilst the next guy is in & out with no fuss. It’s the same story at my place on the Class 2 multidrop side of things, some drivers ■■■■ it and others just can’t hack it.
I would advise people to use Aldi for the magical 2 years experience. Then go get a job as a Driver and be treated with respect. But I agree there will always be a divide and having been a tramper and a shop driver I choose the latter.
It’s all a personal choice.

‘…not interested in you at all only load getting to their stores…’
+1
That mantra lives large throughout this sector
Whether ‘flog & scarper’ or dawdling to suit one’s immediate needs, they’re both do-able and daily choices to both ensure keeping clear of getting wound-up to buggery, or just as frequently witnessed - being abused to chuff. And back
However, always remain 100% clear that the O Licence must not become tarnished during any process option (so don’t get caught, etc)
Of course, in-line with the UK’s ‘Race-to-the-Bottom’ Daily Profit Improvement Policies, company bullshine posters featuring in company corridors, canteens and in company publications would never acknowledge such realities
Eg., Going ‘…the extra mile…’ required from many of us is sooo approved these days: But what does it really mean (Start a thread anyone? I can’t be arsed)
Meanwhile, politicians perhaps need advising that a great life is not being grunted at in myriad tongues whilst they scratch their heads wondering why so few UK youngsters are currently engaging in clean & often delightful, scoff-related C+E driving larks
Asda are great to work for IMO. The jobs great and the money is decent. There’s plenty of opportunity for overtime if you want it too. You’re home every night too.

Makes sense. Why pay an arctic driver on time and half to load a truck when you can pay an NMW monkey.
Seems to me that people hate on places like Aldi coz they actually have to get out the truck and do something. I actually ask for the jobs that I know I have to load myself as it’s the only exercise I seem to get these days.
