The Evil and The Sweetie
If you do a bit of research this pdu idea was launched just under a year ago,it has just 575 members on Facebook of which less than 75 have paid the £25 subscription…which actually started at £30 but was reduced assumingly through lack of interest.
After a year you would expect/need a ■■■■ site more support than that to have any employer take any notice of you unfortunately, the first year uptake shows that this venture no matter how well meant it is will go nowhere I’m afraid.
Barrie tozer has said he has put in £1000 of his own money which I assume he will take back through membership payments so after taking that away from total subcriptions he will have £500ish sat in the fund to take on the truckers fight to be heard and 75 members that believed in him enough to pay for membership…I’m not criticising him here but the guy is heading nowhere fast with this!
The only way we’ll ever have a powerful union of drivers - is if someone as rich as Donald Trump decides to set one up,and offer full strike pay for any industrial action taken by members - all for a regular, going rate union subscription.
When THIS guy calls “everyone out” - They’d then go, knowing that they’ve got a billionaire’s money funding their regular incomes.
He could even insist upon all strikers having to stand on picket lines - in order to get their strike pay. Staying at home whilst others picket for you won’t be an option.
Funny enough, I can see Trump actually taking an approach like this - should he lose the coming election on the grounds of “not being the official republican nomination”.
My guess at the moment is that the republicans will NOT give him the official nomination, and the republican vote will then be split between their chosen candidate and Trump running on an independent ticket.
This, of course, would have victory to the Democrats on a plate. That Democrat Driving seat is possibly the most coveted position in town therefore - I’m sure Hilary Clinton knows it too… Note how she’s been keeping her head down of late, the exact opposite approach to Trump.

That settles it then, wait for Donald to come on Trucknet with a better offer, then decide…Barrie Tozer or Donald Trump.
2 questions though before you choose.
1…Would you trust a guy with a hairstyle like his to sort out the overnight parking situation for UK trampers.
2…Winseer have you been smoking something dodgy of Morrocan origin.
Far too many frightened ■■■■■’s around for it to ever happen Rob.
“Oooh, I have a mortgage to pay”,“Better keeping a wage coming in while I look for something else”,“I quite like 15 hour days, that way I earn more”,etc
It’s about time more driver’s grew a backbone.
I think that may be a little too strong Beaver, as we need to remember that it’s not really legal to strike anymore, and unions as a whole have been castrated. Anyone who kicks up a fuss is easily tossed aside and replaced within a heartbeat, as we now have an open door policy importing cheap labour from almost anywhere…
And what if you did have a case to take your employer to court or an employment tribunal? You won’t get legal aid, as that too has been done away with. Instead the common man/woman will be forced to go with a “No win, no fee” agreement.
And that may as well be entitled: “If you weren’t being screwed before, you will be now!!!”
as i understand it its not a union more a organization to represent our interest at a higher leval than just employers
The thing is though Evil, you are almost underlining the point!
" Cheap EE labour ". So LET them do the crud work for £8 per hour.
OK, but why will MOST employers pay more than they need to get a bum in a seat?
As most of them are probably more interested in what’s the minimum they have to pay, rather than that will be the quality of the applicants?
I’ve seen a Class 2 job recently delivering scissor lifts, cherry pickers etc offering £7.30 an hour!
And I had to wonder 2 things…
1, Who with a Class 2 licence will be applying for that?
2, What sort of candidate will the employer be expecting to attract?
What doesn’t help the situation either is us newbies! The temptation is to take ANY job however low paid, in order to start building experience.

Tribunals were actually just put there as a way for the employers to fight on the employers’ turf and terms. The idea of unions was/is supposed to be all about using the strength in numbers and industrial action to create a settlement in A victimised worker’s favour. On the basis of innocent unless proven guilty to the union’s,not the employer’s, satisfaction.
The definition of ‘strength’ in this case being the level of militancy and unity of the union/s.Which history proves will defeat any bs establishment obstacles put up against it even to the point of military force being used against it.
The problem being that the working class have believed all the establishment propaganda that unity and militancy is bad.Which effectively makes union membership pointless ironically in an environment that’s closer to the Communist system than Fordist Capitalist 1960’s America.

I think that were are just a mere drop in the ocean, as I don’t think there are that many coming through.
It’s far more likely the import and thus glut of drivers, that have held wages down.

What you have just highlighted are only a few of the examples of ‘The Establishment’ agenda. ie. Keeping the Great unwashed working class in their place to maintain their stranglehold on us.
All rights won by our Grandfathers have all been lost and/or handed back, and in a lot of cases far to easily.
A lot of this was due to the reaction of the balance being tipped the other way, when the Trade Unions gained too much power in the 70s.
This has resulted in the word ‘Union’ becoming a dirty word with a lot of modern workers.
However a ‘union of drivers’ (with a small ‘u’ ) is a lot different to an official Trade Union, this as far as I understand it, is what is being proposed in this case.
note;…Sorry to sound like Carryfast in this post btw promise to NEVER do it again.
I thought my pooter was broke then!!
In fairness though, I knew it wasn’t CF. No mention of Thatcher.

He’s on the case (4 posts back) so any minute now.
Agree with both Robroy & Carryfast…
Our grandfathers would weep if they saw the state of the affairs now.
The majority of us (the working class) are just living in blissful ignorance, believing that they have it good. They have no concept of what has been lost, and never will unless it directly effects them.
While I was just a pup at the time of the minors strike, I feel that this was the tipping point of it all, as the unions basically tried to hold the government to ransom over an industry that wasn’t by any means financially viable. It’s why I’ve previously considered the word Union to be a dirty word, and felt to be in a union would be viewed negatively by an employer. However, my thoughts on that have changed, as I’ve a couple of irons in the fire at present, and believe both of those opportunities will be unionised…
I’ll be signing on the dotted line in a shot!
