Drivers Hours - How long, when, Do you know?

Does any one actually know the tachograph rules, or is it just too complicated? Or is it quite simple for the driver to know and work out how long he has, and when it’s best to stop and save the time? If being on the fork park at the Port Of Felixstowe under by face frame for 34 mins counts as rest and if 12 mins under canopy, staring at a shift change in place, is off your driving time or not? All very confusing - how do you know all this drivers?

What?

My guess is he’s not a driver.

haha! you’re right, for sure I’m not. But how can you work it out as all I can go by is a PDF document on the VOSA website. How do you know it all and how best to make use with the times you have left?

Harry Monk:
What?

just say yes . . . .or no

if you browse the forum for a bit, you’ll see that a few do know them , many think they know them and the rest just muddle along.
all in all, they need simplifying.

Well let’s be honest they are pretty easy to understand aren’t they.

All I need to know is that I can drive for 10 hours everyday. Drive time is displayed on the dash so it’s difficult to ever go over. I don’t think I’ve ever gone over 8 though

Although you have to put the magnet on for an hour some days.

Domestic hours?

I reckon to. You dont have to know all of it. I dont anyway.
All i have to concern myslef with is driving time, weekly rest, and how to deal with breaks and the WTD.
I never do enough driving or working time to worry about limits either.

I think they should modify the rules so you have to have a min 20 minutes rest every 3 hours with a max SHIFT time of 13 hours in 24, with a max of 5 shifts in a week, non of the reductions, extensions, compensation & wtd bollox.

I’m not sure if this is the pdf document you’re referring to but if not and you want to learn the regulations the Rules on Drivers Hours an Tachographs would be a good place to start.

Prockie, why don’t you come clean as to who you are and why you’re here? You’re coming across in a less than positive way so far and you might do better if you were more open. As for drivers hours I can tell you that a great many drivers struggle to understand how to implement them properly. The Drivers Hours Regs are sorely in need of simplification. I’m not putting anyone down when I say this but a lot of drivers didn’t come out of school weighed down with O Levels and to see them struggle with it knowing they are often leaving themselves open to possible prosecution, it doesn’t sit well with me. The driver CPC in it’s present form is merely an open cheque book for many “training companies” who saw the chance to make a buck with little or no end result guaranteed. An opportunity missed.

If we have to suffer the driver CPC the very first module should be on drivers hours and candidates should be properly tested at the end by City & Guilds or similar. The qualifications need to be relevant and genuine.

Well let’s be honest they are pretty easy to understand aren’t they.

if thats really the case, how come there are lots of threads running to 3-4 pages of arguments and counter arguments about "is this legal "etc?

Because there are too many people who think they know all the rules and very few who really do.

Regards,
Nick.

which is what I said previously

Not just me that thinks this then. His other post seems to be fishing for something or someone to admit to something’

My £5 is on him (or her) being a journalist looking for a non-story to sell to the Daily Mail

think this is a wind up.
