drivers cpc

does anyone know how many of us drivers are not doing the cpc ? i have been looking online but can not find any details, other than warnings to firms and drivers about the fines they can get ? i for one am not doing anything about getting a cpc i have 24 years experience and if i lose my entitlement then so be it i will go and drive little vans around and proberly make more money than i do driving artics

A man of commitment, fair play to you sir!

I would have thought the government would put it back a year for those without it too catch up, but it wont go away.

I wonder where all these van jobs are going to appear from and when drivers actually realise what van drivers do will be clamouring to get back behind the wheel of a lorry again.

The government can do bugger all about it; it’s an EU directive.

Agree about the van jobs. Over the years I’ve known more than a few HGV 1 drivers get the shock of their lives when they’ve actually had to do some work for a change on parcels and the like.

Far too many drivers doing the usual talking bollox.

What else will they do to bring in a wage because there is nothing else out there. I bet 98% of those who are currently mouthing off that they wont do it actually will.

It’s not if - it’s when.

. . . and that will be 10th September next year.

There’s a fair few voluntary truck drivers out there, those that may be semi retired & just do it to bring a bit of bonus money to top the pension up who may think dcpc is a step too far & finally jack.

I’ve met plenty of lads who don’t have to do it & just do it for the crack.

Bung in a FOI request, VOSA obviously know who and how many, as they have allegedly been taking action against firms who’s drivers are on zero hours!

Clarkson’s Coaches in Barrow had their O licence suspended by Traffic Commissioner Beverly Bell for three days while they brought their Driver CPC training up to date. Following various offences found with their vehicles the TC decided that a major part of rectification for the company was to ensure its drivers were properly trained in daily walk round checks and defect reporting amongst other things. It is interesting to see that the Traffic Commissioners also believe that those on the Operator side who don’t take Driver CPC seriously should be punished!

its the drivers own fault for having no back bone that the haulage industry is in such a mess, when the digi card came in i was ready to quit but being like many drivers thought what else can i do ? now i am 51 if i end up in a factory driving a forklift truck loading you guys who have your cpc i will be on more money or just the same. as for van driving thats where i started 24 years go muiltidropping so iam well used to doing a bit of work.
it is sad to see so many drivers all gave in so you only have yourself to blame in my eyes. the job has changed so much, hell half the drivers of today wouldnt know how to change a gear let alone get about the country if there sat navs break down. and now you want me to have a cpc so i can drive a truck that i have been doing for over 20 years ? no not a chance not no more enough is really enough and if i change my mind in years to come i guess i can always come back to it so long as i get myself a cpc but for now the game can do without me and i only hope many many other experienced guys follow suit. but it doesnt look like they have

I think that drivers with more than 10 years experience should be exempt from the DCPC.If lots of experienced guys jack in the job there will be opportunities for the inexperienced folk who want the job. There are not many flt, factory or van jobs going a begging these days.Different countries are interpreting the DCPC legislation to suit there own agendas. Our Government are of course giving us a right shafting.

Yes, it will be a fantastic opportunity for our Polish and Romanian
friends to show us what they can do on the minimum wage.

 The pubs have only been open 45 minutes too! People like you are part of the reason we’re no longer the workshop of the world and manufacture very little.

You’re absolutely right, the game can do without you. See, these days experience (as long as you have more than 6 months/1 year/2 years depending on employer) counts for very little. I use hardly any of my experience in my day-to-day work because

A) I don’t need to

B) I’m not allowed to

Large firms in the UK don’t want drivers any more, they want customer service people who hold HGV licences. I’m happy to be one, because they pay me exceptionally well to do very little.

You think the industry is a mess? Guess what, nobody gives a toss what you think, they’re going to carry on whether you like it or not, no DCPC - no job. What did you think drivers were going to do to stop it? Are you a driver or are you just having a go at us?

You’re going to end up working in a call centre, just look at what happened to the coal miners.

PS It’ll be some forklift you’ll be driving to earn what a truck driver does…

For the attention of those not doing DCPC. First Scot Rail are recruiting trainee train drivers for Perth depot.£22,K during first year rising to £33K after that.I hope that this helps some one out there.I applied about ten years ago but was to old at 50.back then.

None of us like these stupid little things they dream up to make more money out of the system but it’s there & I don’t see what difference individuals not going through the DCPC is going to make. I did 4 of mine through QTT last year @ £60 a module with one module with Volvo when I had my lorry & IF I’m still driving when mine comes up for renewal I’ll be going with them again if they run courses around here then.

If I lived there I’d be all over that! Train driving has always appealed to me, it just seems like an interesting job.

Don’t forget Fork Truck drivers have to undergo Refresher training also AND re-testing (pass or fail) plus usually other on-going H&S training. My point being they do not get away scot-free with no further training, most industries require this these days…Just part of life I’m afraid (working life anyway).

Good, i hope all these old fuddy duddy driver who think they are too good to re-train do bugger off!

it will give alot more lads like me who WANT to do the job a better chance at finding a decent job, with decent pay AND hours!

I actually value training, as a tool to keep my skills and knowledge up to date! yes im a new(ish) HGV driver and only done the initial CPC, BUT ive been a PSV driver for 11 years, done 4 CPC modules and actually LEARNED stuff i didn’t know! (shock horror, even after 11 years…).

also you forget… to drive an FLT, you need TRAINING! that has to be renewed ever 5 years! (sound familiar) costs about the same as CPC (ish depending on what FLT you want/need) and YOu will have to pay for it!

D’OH!

B…

a bloke said to me the other day

“I’m not doing the DCPC training, I’ll get another job.”

I said to him.

“Do you think you’ll need training?”
