Driver Squatting In Cabs

As posted elsewhere, we’ve a relief driver (shares the old motor with the other reliefs) who has no truck of his own, yet for whatever reason is living in our yard, in various vehicles when they’re not on overnight runs.
One driver turned up a few days ago, opened his cab to find said driver in his bunk and was told “give us 10 minutes.” Our bosses have said it’s not on, but the yard is remote from our head office and you wont see a manager about at 4am.
Are we being unreasonable/unsympathetic as the trucks are allocated to each driver and regarded as ours by management? He slept in mine last night as he’s doing my overnight run tonight (I’ve got DCPC tomorrow), so I’ve put everything of mine in the lockers, locked them and kept the locker keys.

i dont think you are unreasonable,if i had an allocated vehicle i would be annoyed at some other driver being in my cab, particularly if they do not wash and you smell their B O in the cab,as regards your personal stuff i would do exactly the same

The cheeky ■■■■ I wouldn’t have it, surely he’s lying on/in your bed sheets? Ha ha not a chance I’d of dragged the bugger out never mind give him 10 mins.
If he’s got problems that’s not nice but if management aren’t happy that he’s doing it and they’re not sorting it I’d either take my keys home and explain why or just tell him you don’t want a dirty ■■■■■■■ sleeping in your truck.
Surely if he’s working he’s being paid, so he could find a cheap bedsit till he’s got enough to get his own place?

My sleeping bag is locked away, with my food, maps etc. He smokes too, I don’t and I despise anyone smoking in my cab. If it stinks of ■■■■ on Thursday I don’t think an official complaint is out of order? (we carry foodstuffs after all).

You could always do ‘extra’ vehicle checks in the morning. The type that requires you to tilt the cab for access

Sounds like he’s homeless for one reason or another, and believe me that can happen to anybody far quicker than you can ever imagine. It would probably be best for all concerned if he was allocated a permanent truck until he gets himself sorted out.

when I read the title I thought you meant he was having a dump in the cab lol

So did I,its your work place not a zb caravan.Could he not get a cheap caravan and use that there are most likely facilities in the yard so he could double as a night watchman.

so whats this guys story? Its all well and good saying stuff him and all of you kicking off on him but i doubt he’s there through choice unless he’s a loony?

id sooner let a guy kip in the yard than have him tossed into the street, he’s only human like the rest of us. if he’s not stealing or making a mess i don’t see the problem.

Nathan, why do you go all around the houses ? You carry foodstuffs in the load part of your trailer not the cab. If he’s smoking in your cab and you don’t like it then go report him like you think you should. Do you really need the “internet” to back up your descision or do you somehow feel guilty for getting some misfortunate hobo type guy in trouble ?
Just make your mind up and do it, i’m sure its not going to sway you either way if i say “give the guy a break”, personally i’d be more worried about working alongside you than him, at least i could smell him and know he’s coming and what he’s about. Just my own humble opinion of course !!

No mate, cracking job (this time around  )
Harry, all the lorries used on the rota system are allocated. Our oldest wagon is a spare and he was using that. Not sure why he’s using ours now though.

  Just had a call from another driver who said he’s going to do that should he find a “stowaway” in his cab…Trust me, he’ll do it aswell. :smiling_imp:
Turns out my objection wont need to be raised, as two other drivers beat me to it. I can just sit back and watch the entertainment at the transport meeting on Friday then… :sunglasses:

who owns the lorry?

The people that own the lorry have said it’s not acceptable so what bearing does this have? He shouldn’t be helping himself to other peoples units full stop!
If he’s on his uppers then he may need help but letting himself into his colleagues personal space whether they own the lorry or not is not acceptable behaviour in my eyes. And the management have said the same.

Can’t you all muck in and help the guy out. We have a static caravan in our yard, It’s for anyones to use.
Some sites will pay you to remove an old static.

You and the lads could chip in a few quid, Then go to the management, Explain the situation and get them to throw a few quid into the project.

The guy clearly needs a leg up. Help him.
