Driver Squatting In Cabs

Nathan, have you tried speaking to the guy? Maybe speaking to him and finding out his story would help. Easy for me to say, and in true hypocritical fashion I’d probably be annoyed if it was my “house” he was kipping in, but you never know you may be the person to reach out and help the guy!

Not on. Unless he’s a diamond down on his luck…

If you don’t know the story, how can you judge him?
Maybe he’s not homeless at all but working far from home with a family to support so may not have enough spare cash for digs.
Or lost everything for one reason or other.

He could have a house less than a mile away but for some reason loves sleeping in other peoples wagons.

Nathan is starting to moan again, is another change of employment on the cards?

Did he ever stop?

I just hope that he isn’t delivering flour around the Matlock/Bakewell area tomorrow as the Queen is visiting and the A6 will be chaos I reckon…

Pete.

Maybe he is just a seat sniffer?

As posted elsewhere, we’ve a relief driver (shares the old motor with the other reliefs) who has no truck of his own, yet for whatever reason is living in our yard, in various vehicles when they’re not on overnight runs.
One driver turned up a few days ago, opened his cab to find said driver in his bunk and was told “give us 10 minutes.” Our bosses have said it’s not on, but the yard is remote from our head office and you wont see a manager about at 4am.
Are we being unreasonable/unsympathetic as the trucks are allocated to each driver and regarded as ours by management? He slept in mine last night as he’s doing my overnight run tonight (I’ve got DCPC tomorrow), so I’ve put everything of mine in the lockers, locked them and kept the locker keys.

Why not put a Porta Cabin in the yard?
they have Bedroom,Washroom and Kitchen

We used to have one in our yard, he had moved quite a distance away and it wasnt practical to travel everyday, so he would doss down in anything he could find, he didnt work for us but for a subbie who was based in our yard, it was very annoying when you turn up for work and find the cab locked, or no keys in security, and then have to air the cab before using it. He wasnt a scruff but as you know when you sleep you do give off a certain amount of body odour, and you have to start off your day with that lingering smell of sweat. this guy may have the same problem, maybe he was recently divorced or seperated and just needs a helping hand, so dont be too hard on him, we all need a helping hand sometime.

“Driver squatting in cabs” I thought this was going somewhere completely different :open_mouth:

For those that have no sympathy I bet you would not complain if it was a women.

Surely he is being paid for this work can’t he find himself a bedsit on the cheap

Nope, we don’t come up that way until Friday, Pete. Wont be me, it wont be my turn for about 6 or 7 weeks, then I’ll be up there two Fridays on the trot. If someone could tell the roadworkers to hurry up on the A38 at Little Eaton or whatever it’s called I’d appreciate it. Ta.

well said harry, by far the most resonable reply, love to see most on here forced into that situation oh but that be different then i expect, probably a decent guy down on his luck, yeah my wagon, miss tell him, need a good dig these idiots

limeyphil:
Can’t you all muck in and help the guy out. We have a static caravan in our yard, It’s for anyones to use.
Some sites will pay you to remove an old static.

You and the lads could chip in a few quid, Then go to the management, Explain the situation and get them to throw a few quid into the project.

The guy clearly needs a leg up. Help him.

even though I said the op was not unreasonable in wanting him out,but you are right we should help our fellow man if needed

Re the caravan idea, yes we’ve suggested him being a resident night watchman, but this has been ruled out. Could be down to the fact our yard is rented. I suppose he could get a wagon of his own, but the rostered wagons are allocated as I took the last vacant one. We started pretty much the same time but I’d worked there before so took preference. I wouldn’tve gone back there if it was to be a spare cab hopper.

am I missing out? I never seem to have the same problems as the original poster.
every job he is in seems to have a reason to moan, whether it’s the kit, the people, the type of work. common denominator?

my lorry is ‘mine’ but when I’m off its fare game for the other 5 drivers, they look after it the same as I’d look after ‘theirs’. another driver did a night out in ‘mine’ last week. came back and it was all fine! just hide/lock your stuff and bedding and tell him to get a sleeping bag. if he wants to sleep on the bare mattress then is it really that hard to lay an old bed sheet down. he might be a manky lad but if it’s only once in a wee while what’s the harm?

Hope you’re never homeless :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

All for helping people out, but the guy should see his boss or social services.
My motor is my home, by bunk is mine and all my kit and personal belongings are in there, the cab is spotless and does not stink of ■■■■■■ smoke.
Never mind all “this who owns the motor” B/S from the Liberals on here, I would go absolutely ape - ■■■■ if I caught somebody in there :smiling_imp: . “Give me 5mins” ? :open_mouth: he’s feet wouldn’t touch. If it was a mate with prior permission fair enough.
You guys that say you should turn a blind eye, why not offer him your house keys and your bed at home while you are away if you care that much.

Made me chuckle HARD!!

You don’t own the trucks, put in a complaint and let the RELEVANT people deal with it! Refuse to drive the wagon if needs be!

Like others have said, either help it out or just put a complaint in:)

fair comparison comparing your home to a tin can you don’t even own.

:unamused:

Management “discovered” him before anyone could complain; He’d used a pc in the office late one night.
