One doesn’t need a Union to see one’s rights in the workplace respected……Just an honest firm that doesn’t have acting managers trying to turn the company into a mafioso-style syndicate all the time…
Union protects you from what exactly?
…Being fired for for actually committing a sackable offence? OR a buffer to make sure that the “Favourites” never lose their positions, no matter how many times they get caught red-handed mis-appropriating company assets…
“Being unpopular with the Union” - is the first step to getting rid of me, anywhere and everywhere I’ve been. Thus, I prefer to work at places with NO Union presence, especially outfits like Unite and GMB, who’ll fight tooth and nail to keep your wages near minimum, whilst making it impossible for you to walk away en-masse without consequences, “Wildcat Strikes” (The only effective striking…) are not permitted… By the time a Union has held a ballot, there’s no upside left for the grievance-bearing workforce.
Thus, today’s Union Membership on the actual shop floor - are nothing more than “Spies for the abusive acting managers” - nothing more.
Being Far Left on Financial matters - I absolutely detest these “Center Left” liars, cheats, and other forms of filth that always seem to get the cushy jobs, and the big pay-offs even if the firm wises up and one-day gets rid of them.
That so many of them are in the PlP however - keeps me from voting Labour.Good grief your life sounds so exhausting, seeing conspiracies to keep you down everywhere you look. Hopefully you’re not too far off retiring so you can at least stop worrying about work and concentrate all your efforts on town traffic lights being sequenced just to slow you down or the supermarket spying on you as you shop or something like that.
Funnily enough Winseer is the only person to get banned or pushed out of everywhere he works … but it’s never his fault.

I’m not the one who moans when I’m running late, end up off-route, or anything else I’ll casually do to get the job done safely rather than “to acting manager’s satisfaction”… Compare that to others who rush-rush-rush all the time, undertake, slow overtake, and drive totally illegally - just so they can meet acting manager’s version of “realistic targets”, that include squeezing 15 hours of planned runs into a 12 hour shift, or more commonly a 12 hour shift into 10…

You have a point there Winseer. They monitor your efficient driving using microlise and at the same time plan routes like they have given you a car to drive. It doesn’t take long to work out the timings are pie in the sky and that they are just designed to have you always chasing your tail.
The easiest thing to do is drive like you see fit and as long as you aren’t stopping in laybys sleeping they can never really complain about the time it takes. If someone can do it faster than me this just means they get paid less for the same work and are probably a lot more stressed doing it.
Although I have digressed off topic - what was this about again, oh yes driver shortage.
The management from Wrings and Willmotts have been on the BBC red button news channel and the tv commentator at the end of the clip said it takes years to learn how to drive a big wagon like these.
The public will assume it takes years before you get a license but in reality it’s a few days training then pass the test to get the license.
Getting licensed is the legal part and after that you never stop learning as you gain experience.
I had a job last week where the planners had allowed 5mins for the trailer swop, which includes strapping the load and doing checks

Ahh yes. Mircrolise… Was getting perfect scores on that, which wasn’t that difficult, once one learned what was knackering the scores… “Over Driving” was the easiest one to score bad on, which happened every time you accelerated away not just from standing starts, but out of roundabouts, using on-slip roads, etc. The motors often had no guts in them, so you had do floor the pedal, or there was a bloody risk of rolling backwards half the time!
Thus, to get the perfect microlise score - all I had to do was accelerate gently, and take my time on all runs, especially those involving driving uphill (100% ) and then take the flak when they lie to you that “everyone else does it quicker than yeu…”
Yeh right. Fantastic wisdom that. Sack the guy who has a clean licence, never so much as pranged someone at a roundabout, gets perfect microlise scores, and can find alternative routes to a destination without using a satnav… Oh, then you have to chase the “six points on licence OK” crowd to get future bums on seats at much higher financial risk to the FIRM, but no risk at all to the acting managers who continue to haemorrhage the firm’s money on their nasty little anti-individualist ways of life they seem to have… Maybe Insurance companies will one day wake up, and start charging firms who operate a business that badly in terms of H&S alone - a lot more money for their basic “corporate liability cover”…

Do you actually drive on her majesty’s roads, having other artics performing their unsafe driving skills right near you?
…Undertaken on roundabouts, Slow overtaken on the M11 north of Stanstead, Passed on the limiter when the roadworks say “50”, on their bloody phones, driving in the third lane, getting tacho infringements galore, and of course “driving tired”, not meaning working a 15 hour shift, but rather being out on the ■■■■ the previous night, when on an early start OR being on nights, and not actually going to bed during the daytime in between… Sheesh. It is all around, if you are paying due care and attention to one’s own driving…
How in God’s name do you manage to achieve so much drama every week? The issues, arguments, confrontations and bans you have in a week I probably won’t have in my entire lifetime. When it happens at every company you set foot at, most drivers would stop and think “hang on a sec, this is just too coincidental, is it actually me?” but apparently not you. Incredible.

If one ignores the drama, one is at a much higher risk of eventually being killed by something one could have side-stepped, but instead fell victim too…
It takes the fault of TWO to cause death on the roads, after all… Hitting, and failing to avoid being hit.
…Take my banging on about how much “Live Lane 1 Hard Shoulders being a death trap” for instance…
One might thing we’d ALL be in favour of “not being systemically killed by a government folly” - but no. ‘I’m just a moany git for banging on about such things’, I get told…
That’s 38 people that would likely still be alive today (assuming they didn’t die of Covid, and other stuff in the meantime…) - compared to had no one made the stupid decision NOT to pay the farmers top dollar for their extra strip of land required (by compulsory purchase) to widen all our motorways PROPERLY to still include a dedicated hard shoulder, that one would thing was the very definition of what made a Motorway a safer road than an A road dual carriageway without a hard shoulder…

What on earth are you babbling on about now? What have smart motorways got to do with a driver shortage? How do you manage to find drama in everything you do? Are you a woman? Could that be the explanation?
Why can’t you just go to work, do your job and go home like every normal driver manages to do week in week out without any issues? You seem to live in a constant state of fear that everyone and everything is out to get you. Have you considered seeing a psychiatrist ? There is professional help out there, you know?

Reading past all the pomposity you pump out yes, you know I do to first and to second, no, not a huge amount. Driving standards aren’t perfect but they are nowhere near as bad as you drama queens like to moan on about, probably in some vain attempt to paint yourself as a trucking hero braving the lethal roads in your quest to keep people supplied with whatever you carry. That’s when you’re not on here claiming the government is about to haul you off to a concentration camp for being a free thinking dissident. Like I say, drama Queen

Carryfast? Is that you? You both seem to have similar experiences at work. So you tweak your driving to get perfect scores from a computer but refuse to tweak your personality to keep yourself in a job? Seems logical. Because like him it’s fairly clear it’s your personality that is the root of all your problems. Or do you like Carryfast just think it’s a big conspiracy to keep you down?
End of Driver Shortage!
Any vehicle delayed more than 45 minutes beyond its booking time shall be subject to a £300 demurrage charge and £150 per hour for every hour after that.
All drivers must be supplied with hot or cold drinks, toilet facilities and/or access to on site canteen.

Me being on the defensive is a symptom of being had a go at all the time. How abouts we just drop the anti stance, and just get on with the topic of conversation, which is “Driver Shortage” and our opionions/reasons for why it is so, and what we can all do to take advantage of it, whilst staying alive, and avoiding the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune beyond that… The only “Professional Help” I need is for those in charge of me to stop treating me different from everyone else, others who may well not get on their ■■■■ all the time, but that’s no reason to go around sending people to the poor house - is it?
That’s not “Paranoia” speaking, but simple experienced facts from every piece of filth out there that has not minded theirown business, but instead stuck their oar in to bring me down, merely because I irritated them.
All I ever wanted - was the same square deal everyone else gets, and left to my own devices to get on with whatever job I’m doing.
