Driver Shortage?

Conor:
Meanwhile in Driffield…

Haulage company advertising on local Facebook page wanting lorry drivers for bulk blower and harvest work, £10.50/hr.

Local Indian Takeaway has just advertised for a permanent delivery driver, £15/hr.

Any guesses for who isn’t still looking for a driver?

This is hilarious

There is a genuine shortage of hgv drivers, i am being bombarded with calls, texts and emails from all sorts of companies, if this does not help improve the terms and conditions in the job, it is down to us not standing together.

Curry House offering “permanent” positions is hilarious, they are a “cash economy”, I dont know one that doesnt “do” CASH :unamused: …Permanent my arse :open_mouth:

Here’s a thought:

Imagine for a moment, that those drivers that got stood down a year ago like myself - now refuse to come back to full time employment unless it pays

So far, the permanent full time positions - are either a big commute to get to that’s not worth it (when working 5 shifts rather than 3 or 4) and/or the hourly rate is so low that if you worked a 5th or 6th shift - you’d lose it all in deductions…

Thus, the time might now have come for either a low-paid PART TIME job or the full time vacancies - are going to have to try very hard indeed to poach the drivers working elsewhere, so that the mainstream available driver doesn’t get to find out where the real money is at…

The real shortage will occur - when agencies cannot get drivers onto their books for more than five minutes, before some client firm poaches that new agency sign-up with a “temp to perm” position offered pretty darned quickly now…

Came across this by chance while checking You tube out earlier.
Never seen his vids before nor do I follow him.
He does make a few good points though, even if some of the other stuff he says I
don’t necessarily agree with,.and maybe ain’t entirely accurate.
Have a look/listen anyhow.

I passed Class2 last Dec.
Ive had 22 hours class 1 training and 2 failed test attempts since.
Third time lucky next month. With a further 2 hours extra training.
I’m only interested in class 1, but did register with a handful of agencies in early January as a new pass class 2. It wasn’t until late February I started to hear from the agencies regarding class 2 work. By this time I had no intention of doing class 2 work and have never applied anywhere for class 2 work.
The past 8 weeks has been constant daily calls, texts, emails from every agency known to man.
I’ve received calls from haulage companies direct, and a very local one to me, Knight’s of Old call me regularly to see how I am, eager for me to finally pass class 1 next month.

Last week I was offered a start for this morning (agency) class 2, £16ph plus £50 per shift.

What is your problem with doing Class 2 work??
I started off doing long distance on a Ford Transit pick up ffs,.an excellent way to learn the job and to learn routes (pre sat nav) and a bloody lot easier to get out of ■■■■ up situations in a smaller vehicle. :bulb:

Today I went for a driving assessment arranged by the agency, at the assessment I was offered a full time job, which was odd as I applied directly to the said company for a permanent role last week and got rejected.

I don’t want to do class 2. I want to drive class 1. It’s more money and more chance of work that involves seeing less of the mrs.
I’m a bricklayer by trade….but an old one at 50.
The plan has always been to drive an artic as soon as I started to feel to old to be up to my neck in mud and ■■■■ laying concrete blocks in a footing all day, with fit and able 20 somethings.
No kids at home and can’t wait to start tramping.
No rush but looking to start hopefully before winter.

DHL have placed 10 trucks in the North East, running 24 hours, to Goole and Doncaster with an empty and returning with a full load to a north east store, I’ve been doing this for around a month now, all the drivers are agency at moment.

Only 2 ways to resolve this quickly. Training centres to test. Or forget brexit ever happened. Drivers hour or CPC tweeks won’t resolve current shortage.

The DVSA are an embarrassment, the office staff spending 18 months hiding behind desks, striking and refusing to return to the workplace. The DVSA examiners wearing masks, gloves and refusing to touch anything in a cab, after the cab being fully sanitised seconds before they entered it. And refusing to work through any lockdown resulting in thousands of tests over 18 months not happening. The Government need to get a grip….

Well I for one would be willing to work up to 20 hours a day if they allow me.
I only need 4 hours a night kip me. :sunglasses:
It must be no longer a compromise to road safety any more if the Govrnment are going to allow it.

Where is the ROFL smiley? £10.35/hr and £12.20hr Sundays PMSL. And the best bit " treated with courtesy, honesty and total respect - we value all our family members". Yep, the money definitely shows how much you respect and value your “family members”. :unamused: Another company stuck in the 90s that needs putting out of their misery.
