Driver gets 10 years

ur right with that thought…itl not make a blind bit of difference to anyone…just makes good viewing for a few mins as in cab dashcam footage isn’t overly common.yet. :unamused:

jesus. Something hit him at a fair speed to make a truck lurch forward like.

I would imagine another truck, maybe a 7.5t.

Without that footage though - the front driver who actually caused this accident on purpose - would have just said “He rear-ended me, the damage proves me right 100%, and I want compensation for my whiplash”.

Never mind about the first-person’s own upset, or whoever it was that rear ended HIM come to that. You can hear him clearly groaning in either despair or pain or both after the shunt…

The new safety systems now being fitted to trucks possibly might have prevented this tragedy.

The automatic braking systems in theory should, however some of this technology may make things worse; Its going to beep if you drift out of lane, its going to hold you at the same distance from the vehicle in front and it will slam the anchors on if something major happens. There may be a tendency to over rely on all this stuff and feel more comfortable pratting about with a phone or other such device, it ain’t going to be a benefit if drivers stop reading the road half a mile ahead

Driver-Once-More:
The driver, acording to reports, was selecting music on his phone, not answering or recieving a call.

I wonder how many people realise that playing music from your phone via the in-vehicle hifi is still a mobile phone offence if you touch the phone to select a track. I tend to think this will be a bit of a surprise to a great many - presumably it is also a mobile offence if you are using it as a satnav ?

My wifes car has a fancy screen built into the dash, plug an SD card into it or an iphone and you can scroll through music on the screen, may be not as distracting as using the phone but still incredibly distracting to use when driving, I guess many will think it entirely acceptable to use when driving as it is built into the vehicle?

The guy who got hit up the arse in that clip was in a work van not a truck

It’s a bad case but we are in the 21 century now there are ways to control thing like music that can be and should be fitted to all trucks as a standard. Many nee trucks Bluetooth hands free isn’t standard neither Bluetooth audio and. Dreading wheel controls these should be a standard these days yet many companies go for the cheaper systems don’t provide phones or hands free in the trucks as it costs more for the truck then and they don’t see it as an essential maybe its time for a change if thought for companies when buying new vehicles

No not really ,if you want to switch music text or call someone take time out OFF the road to do it. No excuses .

Heres another angle on this debate.
Up until about 5 years ago, I would take the odd call whilst driving, that was until the company I work for mandated from then on that anyone caught using a device whilst driving would face instant dismissal, that also includes blue tooth calls.
From then on, I no longer touch any mobile device while I’m driving, so why is that ■■
Deterrent would be my guess!
And until the deterrent is made harsher by maybe a ban, bigger fine etc nothing will change. The prospect of me losing a good well paid job was enough to change my attitude!

+1

Company i work for have the same policy, they also have zero tolerance on speeding too. Which is good because the transport office will never contact me to ‘push on’.

Nice to see someone is paying attention.
Makes you wonder if people cannot even digest news correctly how the hell can they have the ability to drive an LGV?

In the eyes of the law its irrelevant what you are doing with the device. Wether that be scrolling through music, or making or receiving a call, it all amounts to using a hand held device while driving.
Sorry if that’s not what you were getting at.

Aye, our lot also go down the disciplinary route if your nicked for speeding and if anyone is reckless / stupid enough to be caught doing twice over the posted limit, that’s also P45 time!

Ahhh another arm chair member if the trucknet csi

And back in the real world

It’s a bit difficult to “read what you said properly” when you include meaningless phrases such as

Many nee trucks Bluetooth hands free isn’t standard neither Bluetooth audio and. Dreading wheel controls these should be a standard these days

I appreciate that some of this is going to be down to mobile phone auto-correct etc (at least I hope it is!) but for goodness sake why not simply read what you have posted and then go back and edit it if it is gobbledegook?

So none of any of us on here has texted / whatsapp/ emailed while driving ■■?

I think it’s bloody awful for all involved, but… and I think it’s a big but…

There for the grace of god go I…

We all know it’s wrong, but we still do it, and I don’t think many people can honestly say they haven’t either…

Yes if it was music searching or whatever kind of makes it worse, but the principle is the same.

I think the phone manufacturers should make the hand sets automatically blocked when the phone is traveling over a certain speed, thus removing the temptation…

No great help to the devasted family involved…

I know where you are coming from with that mate but unfortunately it’s just not a practical solution because of the impact it would have on bus, train, car passengers etc who are legally entitled to use such a device whilst on the move.

What I would like to know is, as this clown got 10 years, it said on the news last night that the maximum he could have got for this was 14 years.
SO,
WTF do you have to do to get the maximum 14 years??

Defraud or steal from the establishment is what. People don’t matter to these judges but woe betide you if you attempt to screw the establishment over. :imp:

This report says Poland has the worst driving record in the EU. Did they need to do a survey? At my last place the Poles regarded accident damage as a badge of honour. The Romanians aren’t much better.

Good point, never thought of that, must be some idea / way to do such a thing ?
