Driver found Dead, at Harthead moor services

R.I.P. Drive sad way to go, Happend to a mate of mine, arrived back in his yard rang his wife to pick him up when she arrived found him dead in the cab,10/15 mins later.

It’s a horrible feeling to to be on your own and take ill, it happened to me many years ago. I was coming back north from Brum and had to load at Teeside next day. After stopping for a meal I headed up to “the fiddlers” layby on the A19, it was Xmas week so I was alone in the layby. I settled down for the night but after a couple of hours I woke feeling very sick and burning up. I couldn’t settle and thought I would cool down by opening the door and getting some fresh air. I must have been very confused to do this in late December!!! After a while I still didn’t feel any better, I don’t know how long I sat in the doorway freezing but still burning up but eventually I knew I needed help. This area was terrible for the phone signal but I couldn’t even get out of the cab by then, I knew it was my only hope and if I dropped it I was in even more trouble, I finally got through on 999, I then had to convince the operator I wasn’t a stupid drunk being a nuisance as I knew I was talking drivel by then. In fact I was so sick I couldn’t remember where I was parked. I was told to turn on the lights and hazards and keep talking. They eventually found me and whipped me of to hospital in Northallerton. I was in intensive care for 24 hrs suffering from hyperthermia due to sitting out in my undercrackers in late December, the underlying cause was an ear infection which led to Vertigo and made me feel very ill in the first place. I was very very lucky to survive, thanks to the care I received I even managed to get home on Xmas eve. It’s something I will never forget, even though I was very confused at the time. My wife received a very nasty shock with a call from the hospital at 0500 the next morning telling her I was in intensive care. Regards kevmac47.

I’m not suggesting it’s what happened to this poor soul but our worst enemy in our cabs are gas canisters leaking .there have been quite a few fatalitys put down to this in Europe the Germans I believe have outlawed them to be Carried in our cabs. RIP driver

That’s true, a driver who worked for FM suffered this, not in a truck, but on a small boat he owned.
