Cameras could be fun !

For the love of god thread closed before Dipper reads this! :open_mouth:

All these old timers pining for the olden days, makes me laugh… don’t you think it’s time to quit all this “when I was a lad” Bollox.

Some of you need to catch up with the 20th century, we no longer use wooden wheels FFS

Spot on, the 20th century was a hell of a lot better for drivers

Well I went in for a penny and got an outward facing cam set up on the car, Was giving it some thought after enough being enough after those couple of events. Pros way out the negatives.

It’s pretty boss. Front and rear cameras and hardwired in. You can’t really see them from the exterior save a couple of small “security” presence lights which you can turn off anyway. It goes into parking mode whilst you’re out of the car. Kind of like a surveillance thing. Let’s you know when you’re back in if anything triggered by motion or movement. You then look up the footage on your phone with a WiFi hotspot the camera sends out. You can adjust everything via your mobile wirelessly including turning all visible cam lights off, brightness etc. It’s even got this thing where it picks up any local WiFi such as at home if parked, so if you’re away somewhere in the world, if the cams are triggered by G force or motion it lets you know. Bloke called Q sold it to me  . Seriously though, well impressed so far.

If I’ve read it right Juddian ( and robroy ) were rightly making the case for not wanting all the 21st century control freak bs that you seem to be supporting. In which case the 20th century was fine at least up to the point when tachos arrived on the scene. Now let me guess you’re going to say that 15 hour shifts and not being able to take a break without the guvnor knowing about it are all for the driver’s benefit.Let alone cameras watching your every move.Turkeys voting for Christmas. :unamused:

Lancsdriver70:
The way things are going with inward facing cameras and various other surveillance tools, drivers’ cabs will soon become little
more than mobile prison cells!

Category A prisoners are less surveyed than modern day lorry drivers.

That just about sums up the New age modern driver CF, turkeys and Christmas scenario.
He focuses on the fact that …we ‘‘make him laugh’’ , and that is the foremost thing that he feels the need to comment on in this thread,… but the fact that he will be possiby constantly watched and monitored in the future has no effect and is not worth mentioning. :unamused:

Why don’t you swap with one then?

I get surveyed loads in the street by “charideeees”

Surely these cameras will only be like dash cams, where they record on a loop to an SD card though?

The drivers won’t/can’t be watched live surely?

Many of the cameras work as you describe, but increasingly that style of unit is being relegated to the private use/cheap end of the market. Mobile data (i.e. 4G) means that live (or nearly live) monitoring is quite doable. Our fleet doesn’t have inward-facing cameras, but both the forward facing and reversing cameras are recording all the time and the footage is kept on a hard disk unit in the cab. It is downloaded automatically and so the video footage can be viewed for any time that the system is “live” (it shuts down automatically an hour or so after the ignition is switched off) even if there was no movement or impact with the vehicle. Our lot recently used the footage from the reversing camera in their investigation of a head injury suffered by a driver while unloading. It also saved me from getting blamed for some minor bodywork damage when the truck was struck by another vehicle while unattended at a hospital delivery point.

Yeah I’d agree and say its totally possible as my camera does it, but would it be used? God knows. It’s why I didn’t like inward facing cameras in lorries.

On the system I fitted you can view live feed. Used it to set them up, just pops up on the phone. You do it though the camera WiFi broadcast when parked, alternatively you connect the system to a mobile hotspot, such a small mobile 4g router (I’ve got one gathering dust as don’t need it) you can access live feed or the saved footage from anywhere in the world.

It’ll happen everywhere eventually. Insurers will insist on them,or the govt will legislate to make them mandatory. Only way it could be stopped is driver solidarity via their unions. A few places with a strong recognised union will hold out to block early roll out, but in the end It’ll be futile as the vast majority of drivers aren’t organised and will huff and puff and do nothing. I’d give it 5 years max before everyone has one.

Then you’ll get companies like mine which don’t do things like that, we don’t need a union because we all know the boss. No corporate ‘representatives’ or bs like that, just drivers who get treated like grown ups.

In 5 years I won’t have one.

A.

Nor me

The day I have to have a camera looking into the cab I’ll be out of the industry, I really enjoy the job but that would just be like being on Big Brother fs

Better to laugh than pity the fool

Not worth mentioning because it’s no big deal, is that really the worst thing that could happen in your life? FFS get a grip old timer.

If you are to stuck in your ways to embrace new tech you should quit and let the next generation take over, us 20 somethings can do the job better than you any way!

You belong to what I call SORTYS … …Should Of Retired Twenty Years Since.

How are you going to cope when electric trucks come in … you will probably have a complete breakdown.
