How are you going to cope when electric trucks come in … you will probably have a complete breakdown.
Look on the bright side I more or less did almost 20 years ago at the age of 40.
Although to be fair rob is happy with an auto so he’ll be fine with a brake and go EV.The 15 hour shifts allowed every day to make up for the lack of payload when claimed battery weights turn out to be as believable as VW’s clean emissions, all enforced by a camera if you dare to yawn during a shift, might be something else.
robroy:
That just about sums up the New age modern driver CF, turkeys and Christmas scenario.
He focuses on the fact that …we ‘‘make him laugh’’ , and that is the foremost thing that he feels the need to comment on in this thread,… but the fact that he will be possiby constantly watched and monitored in the future has no effect and is not worth mentioning.
Better to laugh than pity the fool
Not worth mentioning because it’s no big deal, is that really the worst thing that could happen in your life? FFS get a grip old timer.
If you are to stuck in your ways to embrace new tech you should quit and let the next generation take over, us 20 somethings can do the job better than you any way!

To be fair I would expect someone who thinks corporate gimps like Brakes are great employers to embrace something that is only there to shaft them.

A.
Yes Brakes are a modern progressive firm and that is why they are very successful, firms that dont progress get left behind and go bust.
This is how the modern world works - it’s about profits and progression not about drivers who mess their pants every time something different comes along.

It’s too stuck in your ways, not ’ to '.
As for things from yesteryear, manners and respect were far more prevalent then. However as you have clearly demonstrated, they are slowly dwindling.

Modern and progressive firm, Jesus wept.
Anything more from the corporate pishbook that you want to dribble out?
There’s a big difference between things like auto boxes, ABS, seatbelts and lane departure warnings and having a camera staring at you all day waiting to catch you doing something that the rule book says isn’t right.
You crack on being a screwdriver though, gives the rest of us something to laugh at.

Manners and respect are a two way street - and this from the man that was calling his fellow drivers worms not so long back
Oh the shame I made a spelling error how will I ever get passed it.

I am assuming the ’ passed it ’ quote was humour (unless you are simply uneducated).
Normally I don’t tend to agree with Adonis, however he is dead right on this thread. As for my reference to worms, you are also dead right. I should not refer to other drivers as worms. Worms are an important part of the eco system, whereas spineless and frightened drivers should really be called ’ complete and utter bellends ’ and are of no use whatsoever.
Older drivers historically would ask young gob$hites like your good self to be their ■■■■■, until they learnt the job as an apprentice and hopefully gained some respect along the way.
Taking me on is pointless mate, now run along and deliver your spuds

Normally I wouldn’t agree with eagerbeaver but in this case he is absolutely spot on on regards to what he previously described as works.
You know, the type who witter pish about how dobber companies are ‘progressive’ and who embrace things that are not there to help them.
123smith:
Oh dear who’s scared of a little camera then!
I am trying not to laugh at you - it seems cruel.
I’m not “scared of a little camera” but at the same time I don’t feel comfortable with the idea of being under constant surveillance, partly I suppose because I grew up in the era when such surveillance was associated with highly repressive Communist regimes, most notably the Soviet Union. I personally wouldn’t drive a vehicle which had a driver-facing camera, but if others are happy to do so then that is their choice.
This isn’t because I am doing anything wrong, but because I drive a truck largely because it was, when I started, a job where you were left to your own devices and while I accept that technology moves on, and have adapted to being subject to mobile phones, trackers etc, I don’t want to be filmed while I am going about my business, any more that I would want to be filmed while sitting on the bog, crimping off a length.
I wouldn’t waste your time Beav mate.
This guy is making an excellent job himself of totally illustrating what you me and a few others on here have been saying about that type of gullible and subservient driver…which we all love.
The types who think they know better than experienced men, but in reality know the far end of ■■■■ all.
Not only that but in ignorant bliss to the fact that they have gone a long way to help to ■■■■ the job up not only for themselves but for many of us.
Just let em crack on mate, and laugh at their ignorance, safe in the knowledge that we have forgot more about the job than they will ever know.

I was in Baghdad when he was in his Dad’s bag.
What are the other classics?.
Done more miles in reverse than he’s done forward.
Sat longer waiting for fog to clear than he’s been in the job.
The others will come to me…, I know them cos I’ve had them used at me years ago.

Another “when I was a lad post” Yawn
Yeh that’s right mate, ‘‘when I was a lad’’.
I remember it well as a young driver, the days when everybody had a brain that could think for themselves, the days when we decided when to wipe our own arses without being told, when initiative was something that lads like you now had actually heard of. . but hey ho, how times have changed eh?
I like a laugh myself bud, and I’m telling myself that you are actually on a Christmas wind up, as I’d like to believe nobody could be so brainwashed with corporate crap, because if you aint, and you actually ARE being serious with some of your views and opinions …then things are even worse than I actually thought.
Anyway, I’m coming across here as if I actually give a ■■■■ what you think,.so as that is soooo far from the case, you just keep baiting my mate Beaver,.and a Merry Christmas from …‘‘An old timer who should have retired 20 yrs ago’’

Beavers easy
And a Merry Christmas to yourself…I hope nobody buys you a bloody camera though
There could be a whole new pastime, with drivers coming up with ever more creative ways to divert the camera’s view using mirrors etc so as to generate the most interesting footage.
