Hi Derf,
As animal has already said, “attendance” is required.
Attendance is “ALL” that is required.

Attendance is “ALL” that is required.
So how does a prospective employer guage if you have any relevant knowledge?
Am I right in thinking, you just pay some dosh, try not to look too bored for 5 hours, get your tick in a box and leave?

well you’d be surprised how entertaing it can be with what some so called drivers think they can do not knocking you but maybe you wouldnt look do daft if you knew that it was ATTENDANCE requiered be for asking about doing it ON LINE
Derf:

FTFY.
At least one provider has attempted to shorten the 7 hr requirement, but they lost their provider’s licence and some people were arrested by the police.
JAUPT have a team of external verifiers who can just turn up at any time during a course to check that things are as they should be, so any provider who thinks that they can short-deliver is really rolling the dice. Even if a verifier doesn’t turn up, it’s perfectly possible that one of the candidates could make a complaint if the delivery is shorter than required.
The DSA (Double Sandards Agency) set up JAUPT (Jumbled And Useless Pretend Training) agency to make sure you do go to sleep… sorry … attend

I’ve just trawled through the JAUPT website several times, and can’t see anywhere by their rules why it can’t be done online.
I’ve done several online courses in other areas, and each one had rather stringent assessment and verifiers making sure I was who I said I was, and that it was me doing the work.
Can’t see why that won’t work for the DCPC, or am I apllying too much common sense?

Hi Derf,
This is from 1.3 on page 5
A course is a coherent programme of learning of at least seven hours. The seven hours excludes any breaks or administration time; only direct training and contact time (time with a trainer) count towards the periodic training requirement.
Here is the original document:
It is not what the DCPC is all about. It hasn’t been designed to have a test at the end of it, though many trainers do have their own just to try & keep everyone awake, it’s purely based on attendance as far as the driver is concerned, and content as far as the trainer is concerned. There probably will be some changes over the coming years - getting rid of things like the ability to do the same course 5 times and still get your card & other stupid things, and together with that they may bring in a test (probably at extra cost), then it may be possible to introduce it as an on-line system. However, this won’t be happening in the near future.
I still come across drivers who have not even heard of the DCPC, one was a coach driver who said his employer was sorting a card out for him & he didn’t have to do anything - should be interesting for him this time next year…

Hi tallyman,
You’re correct about there being no compulsory testing, and that some trainers have incorporated a little ‘test’ into the course.
IMHO, the main reason for this is that there has to be some kind of confirmation of learning, so the easiest way to achieve that is to get the delegates to do a little ‘test’ on what they’ve just learned. There’s no pass/fail, but once the little ‘test’ is retained by the provider and attached to the candidate’s training record, it becomes evidence of training. Evidence of confirmation of understanding is frequently checked when a JAUPT verifier drops in for a visit.
This is also from 1.3 of the document I linked above:
There are no tests or exams involved but training centres will be required to evaluate each course to ensure that those attending have benefited from the training that they have received.

Only last week, I heard a driver say that his boss told him he doesn’t need a CPC, because the boss already has a CPC which covers all of the trucks and all of the drivers.
Whether the guy’s boss had actually said that isn’t for me to decide, but I think it shows that there is still widespread ignorance of DCPC.
I can see VOSA having mid sept to oct next year doing a check on PCV DQCs and then another for LGV the following year
It will be easy for them to do because not carrying that DQC is an offence and not having a DQC is yet another offence
They may go a little easy to start with by just giving a warning but I would not count on it

cant see why they should go easy Rog it’s not like you can miss the point its needed

Well I guess you show them your DCPC card.
We saw you coming…pay your hard earned money and sit there like you enjoy being stung for 400 quid…and have a nice day.
if courses are boring its because YOU have
nothing of benefit to contribute
to the less experience
I have my DQC can honestly say that I have learned more from this site than from the 3 "trainers"who I had to pay.If it were not just a cash generator then time browsing the forums could count as training.
Ive been scratching away at the surface of this. I’m sure that you’ll all be surprised to learn that the fact the DCPC has to be an attendance only ‘Death by power point’ type ‘training’ (and I use the term very losely) is a European directive;
Eurpean Directive 2003/59 (CPC Annex A) states “ 3 (b) (b) a system of periodic training In accordance with section 4 of Annex I, periodic training involves compulsory course attendance. It shall be certified by a CPC as provided for in Article 8(1)”
