FAQ forum for info on Posting Pics, Driver CPC and much more…

Medical - if you have D provisional on licence then that is covered by LGV one OR if last LGV medical is less than 12 months old then that is also covered.

Theory (modules 1a + 1b) - both the on-screen questions and the HPT will need to be taken & passed - these are now in 2 seperate tests and paid for seperately as well - if you fail one then only that one needs retaking.

Practical on-road test (Module 3) - about a 1 hour drive

INITIAL DRIVER CPC (modules 2 + 4) - BOTH must be taken and passed as this is for a D licence aquisition.

Once passed, one set of 35 hours PERIODIC DRIVER CPC will cover both LGV & PCV.

Have a look in the FAQ forum for more info and links on the subject

Hope this helps

CPC for busses started last september, if you go for the license now you will have to do the cpc stuff.

My HGV/PSV runs out in May when I hit 50, (I know I don’t look it).

So I am I right in believing, my HGV will be valid after renewal but my PSV won’t? Would like to have kept it current due to the uncertanty with jobs at the minute.

Presumably you will just need a medical to ‘re-new’ your licence. Both your LGV and PCV entitlements will remain - all you have to do is the ongoing periodic driver CPC training which covers both entitlements.

When you do the medical at age 50 both C & D will be shown as your 55 birthday renewal - that’s the licence bit done…

Now for the driver cpc bit - to retain the right to get paid for D driving, you will need to complete the 35 hours of PERIODIC driver cpc by Sept 2013 - that will also cover your LGV.

Now an interesting bit - if you do not complete the 35 hours by Sept 2013 but by Sept 2014 instead, then you cannot get paid to drive D from Sept 2013 to Sept 2014 ( or until the 35 hours are completed) but you can get paid to drive C til Sept 2014.
Once the 35 hours have been completed, you are then covered again for both C & D.

hope this makes sense as I wrote it quickly…

The above link is for INITIAL LGV from Sept this year but it lists modules 2 & 4.
Mod 2 will be roughly the same but Mod 4 will be different as you do not rope, strap chain etc on a bus  - you may get asked to show how you would stow a pram or wheelchair for example…

It seems the only place to find info for modules 2 & 4 PCV driver cpc is HERE - cost £9.99p but can be ordered by e-mailing sebastian.nice@tso.co.uk or they might be available in your local bookshops

Or do like I did and get it from your library. I got it out to see what was in it, however I have to say I was a bit disappointed in it, particularly the practical demonstration test (module 4) - only 4 short pages, and nothing of any use really.

This publication DOES NOT give you the information needed to pass the Modulee 2&4- it only tells you what the tests involve.

This is the only book that contains all the information needed for the two driver CPC modules for PCV training THE OFFICIAL DSA GUIDE TO DRIVING BUSES AND COACHES
which is available cheaper from desktopdriving.co.uk

Hope this helps

Thanks chevmac  - I’ve added that info to any future posting on this subject.

No problems- the DSA examiners will tell all candidates who fail the module 4 to READ THE BOOK- some bl###y debrief that is. :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation:
According to them that is the policy for debrief as per DSA- and they still haven’t released any training guide.

Maybe it’s just me but IN MY OPINION- We( the DSA) are going to introduce a new test but will give anyone very little guidance as to how to pass it except read a book.

It’s like failing a driving test and being told by the examiner to GO AWAY AND LEARN TO DRIVE as a debrief :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

The DSA are ok for testing new car drivers but I would like to see another agency with a more realistic mandate for upgrade testing.

Unfortunately ROG that will never happen-
Loss of revenue for DSA :unamused: :unamused:

Talking of CPC I just finished the course last week. A firm I usually work for managed to get a few places at a local centre and have done the full 35 hours for £50, and that will see me until 2018. for both my PCV and LGV I
They lumped in a Level 2 NVQ as well, for which we had to do a little test.
The course was interesting, no more. I can’t help feeling that its just another tax and empire building creating jobs, all done under the umberella of ‘Safety’
That said, getting together and having a chance to talk and discuss coaching/transport matters of all sorts was enlightening
The card arrived within 10 days!

What courses did the 35 hours consist of?

OH - and does your DQC have the same date for LGV and PCV on it  - I ask as many were finding that there are 2 dates on it at present due to the LGV not in force yet.

Cheers ROG I knew you would answer this.
So I am right in believing 1 cpc covers both C&D. I thought they may be separate.

One set of 35 hours does cover both LGV & PCV.

I don’t really know, I just turned up! sorry.
I know that the course was purely aimed at PCV though, and I have just looked at my DQC and it shows
Community Code?? 95
and an expiry date of 09.09.2019,(not 2018 as I thought) for all groups C1,C,D1,D,C1E,CE, D1E and DE

Hope it helps
