Ha ha very good, I just re read my post and did indeed write pledged rather than fledged. Well spotted.

To be fair mate the initial ‘mocking’ as you call it was brought about as a result of your excessive patronising and condescending attitude towards everyone on here… (Genuine or tongue in cheek I still can’t be certain)

The trolling part came after you realised that you had gone a bit too far with it, so you went down that route to save a bit of face and salvage a bit of dignity by making a joke of it.

I know this as I am a fully qualified psychologist who just became a trucker later on, as I was making far too much money out of it.

Still think it was entertaining though. …(your posts, not the psychology  )

It was meant as entertaining and not malicious, you see look at it from my angle, when you say your* a psychologist driving a truck, now I would not find that difficult to believe, some of the morons on here would then poke fun and take the ■■■■ and say what a knob. That is what has happened to me on here. I am actually what I profess to be (not a knob) I am a fully pledged Refrigeration Consultant that** does indeed drive a truck now for a living. I did indeed design many cold stores worldwide. Not a show off thing as I thought it may be of interest to some. I cannot get my head around why people find it so difficult to understand. Too many reasons to go into why I am now a class 1 tramper full time. I also know some very high profile friends of mine who do the same job. I sometimes wonder if some of these people that get talked about on here who have told someone of their past are actually some of my friends. I guess it is a class thing, funny really because the worse people who are prejudice about a class difference are not normally the middle to high class themselves. Usually those like me who are from a middle class family have friends from lower classes and see them as good friends. Now there is psychology for you.

  • I hope I don’t have to explain this one…

** Really? Are you taking the Mickey now?

As for the rest, I’m not going to try and point out the grammatical errors and convoluted sentence structures. Did you write this in a hurry? And after imbibing drink?

Yes wrote in a hurry and stringing sentences quickly so as not to be too long an explanation. **Afraid so, it is true.

Did you two sort out your spat about a/an regards a major German truck maker?
Can I too join in as an associate member of TNUKs Pedants Corner?
“The MAN acronym originally stood for Maschinenfabrik Augsburg-Nürnberg AG pronounced [maˈʃiːnənfaˈbʁiːk ˈʔaʊ̯ksbʊʁk ˈnʏʁnbɛʁk] or [-faˈbʁɪk-]), formerly MAN AG.” (wikipedia)
If pronounced as the individual letters “M.A.N.” the initial “M” would sound as “emm”, so would be prefixed with “an”.
If pronounced as “Man” then “a” would be more correct.
Given there is little scope for ambiguity, and the words are written rather then spoken, I think more than 3 or 4 hours debating this subject may be excessive.

No, I meant the word ‘that’ in the sentence.

Yes, I do pronounce it M.A.N., hence the prefix ‘an’. Just like B.M.W. or E.R.F. But he knew that. It is funny though, because Daf is pronounced as a word, rather than individual letters, even though it is a similar abbreviation.

Don’t think it was so much the post content that caused the verbal backlash, I reckon it was more the supercilious method of delivery that caused the reaction tbh mate. :bulb:

Probably right, I think I am a little obnoxious at times.

I really don’t think people see it the way you describe as above. You’ve probably bought what you feel on by yourself to be honest. Starting threads to seek out the top ten who are an intellectual cut above everyone else. Well meant I know, but given you’ve mentioned more than once you’re quite a clever bloke, a thread like that is always going to be a bit divisive and make people suspicious. I don’t think people are bothered by what people did outside of driving as much as you think. Most judge folk by how they are, not whether they’re intellectual, what jobs they had or what class they come from.

I am not offended or hurt by what anyone has said, it really matters a jot to me on here. However I do see this forum as more than simply trolling as there actually are a fair few decent posters on here. I was only pulling your legs on some of the posts I put on here with some of the content being a bit brash. Surprisingly I think there was only 1 poster who got what I was saying and understood why I now drive a truck for a living rather than utilising my ability to earn more money. Hopefully the decent posters realised that, yes I was taking the ■■■■ at times, but at other times I wasn’t. My top 10 posters was actually going to be a serious post.

I can win any argument, on any topic, with any one.
People know this, and steer clear of me at parties, as a sign of their great respect.

Who seriously puts “What do I get to drive” at the top of their considerations list when applying for a job though?

“Good enough” will probably suffice. 59 plate or newer - probably still comfortable enough, with all the bits working that add to that comfort. Things like Comfy Seat, Working Radio/Mains, and a Night Heater that doesn’t make the inside of the cab stink like a paraffin stove.

“Good Enough” I would set the bar fairly low. I cannot imagine myself ever even thinking “OOOh they’ve only got a 62 plate Actros. I want at least a 64 plate!”

The actual unit is not on my list as being important to the job to a certain degree, I wouldn’t want an old unit that resembles a gypsy camp, but the job itself is more of a consideration to me. The two sot of go hand in hand, I have seen some lovely well looked after trucks 10yrs old.

More than you might imagine, hence why all flash no cash operators have applications piled high, while joe soap down the road who pays 20/40% better struggles to find drivers.

One of my old Geordie mates was at that cafe (now closed) just south of Evesham, he was about to get back into his old Iveco wag n drag transporter resplendent with its coffin sleeper pod, so you know we’re going back in time here a bit.
Hero walks past, says loudly ‘‘i wouldn’t drive that for 600 a week mate’’ to which he got the reply ‘‘neither would i pall’’.

Great come back. Nobody wants to live in a pig sty but then the lorry doesn’t really count as part of your wages.
