Hi ,I have question.I am new driver and I am not very sure about this. When I started my shift I was waiting for someone to take me as passenger to the workshop pick up my lorry I was not sure what tacho mode should I use if other work or POA. As there was some waiting when other driver comes and pick me up and then I was as passenger taken to workshop.I have been doing nothing just waiting.Once I was in my lorry I have done manual entry and record it as POA .Is that OK or I should use other work?

Not working so it cannot be other work - can be poa or break
Record a few minutes other work at start of shift the break is doing nothing except sitting in a chair/seat
POA is fine as you were neither working or driving [emoji106]

If you got a lift in a truck that you were licenced to drive, then legally you needed to put your card in slot 2 for that journey
Get in passenger seat, get driven to collect truck, get in the truck to drive it back, put card in,orNot, and carry on. Sod all this Manuel entry bolllixs and should I or shouldn’t I do this, as long as your being paid. All the plobbers and blue chipper drivers will tell you to put this here, use slot 2 Hanna yabba yabba,

£300 fine on the slim chance you got busted, takes about 30 seconds, no brainer
Oh yeah, when the new GPS tacho’s are out in a few months, you’ll stand out like a sore thumb unless you change how you work, the game’s changed, only gonna cost ya if you don’t too

Sorry, this is not correct. Some class 2’s have 3 seats, so what if you were carrying 2 drivers to, for example, workshop etc.?

Its an obvious flaw in the rules that just highlights how stupid they are. Doesn’t mean stevie is not correct.
That being said biggriffin is bang on the money.

If there is an available slot in the tacho, you use it. If no slot is available, you can’t, so do a manual entry later.
And Stevie is clearly correct. Getting a fine for incorrect use of card and failing to keep records may not be very likely, but why take a chance?
’
Keep your card clean so you can extend your working day? It’s an option, but not for me thanks.

I’ve picked motors up from all over the place, get taken there in a van or other truck going that way, jump in card in, crack on, My children haven’t been sold into slavery, and the big scary man hasn’t asked me to pick the soap up.

OK I am splitting hairs, but don’t you need to know in advance that you’ll be waiting to choose POA mode?
Am I right in saying that if you put your card in slot 2 then the mode automatically switches to POA? And you can’t put it on other work at least when the vehicle if moving? Can someone clarify this?

Agree wholeheartedly mate, thing is though the ‘‘World of theory men’’ rule the roost these days, they’re attempting (and succeeding ) to brainwash everybody, and common sense is now out of the window.
I just play the forkers at their own game these days, and don’t give them the satisfaction of them getting one over me, and making their sad little day.
After saying that, a lift to pick up my truck ?..nah, wouldn’t bother my arse either…most I would do maybe is write on printout at end of day taking the lift time in my 13 hours, and not over it, but only if I could be arsed.

I’m with you there rob why go through all the faff of putting a card in slot 2 on a motor you have no intention of driving then taking it out then there will be a gap in the times before you put it back in your motor, seems a lot of effort for sod all to me

Your choice people, but it’s not for sod all, it’s to stop an albeit small chance of a £300 quid fine, you may not agree with having to put your card in, you might think it’s pointless, but the EU regs / dvsa say it has to be in and if stopped and it’s not it’s gonna cost you £300 for failing to use your card, it’s that simple.
Risk : reward
Slim chance of a £300 fine plus potential of failing to record other work
Reward - save the time it takes to put it in,
If at the beginning of a shift so you can work longer than a 15 etc

Ok, but if I did write on a printout instead of going through the palaver of ■■■■ ing about with cards and slots and manual ■■■■ entries, I would have made a record of it.
Surely even VOSA would not be pedantic enough to do me for it would they?
Also how do you mean reward… ‘‘You can work longer than a 15 hour shift’’
Which idiot wants to work longer than 15 hours, and if he does…how?
(Or have I picked you up wrong on that one.
)
Common sense rules here lads i reckon.
Sat in passenger seat for 3 hours going to collect a vehicle from 100 miles away, yes makes sense to slip your card in slot 2…but don’t forget the thing when 20 minutes later the penny drops
Ten minute lift back to the yard from the service garage?, no i wouldn’t be bothered either, but i always make sure other work before or after using my tacho is recorded when i do manual entries, which my lot require and i have no issue with.

Yes they would and have!
This question was asked and answered by the dvsa policy department, I’ll posted it up if you’re struggling to get to sleep!!
I’m not saying everyone would view working more than 15 as the reward, but for the people that want to it is.
I personally would probably do exactly what juddian has said, but know the risk
