Drinking while driving

If you drunk a can of beer while driving but was under the alcohol limit would it be ilegal?

Not illegal but would imagine gross misconduct and instant dismissal. Also very foolish in my opinion :open_mouth:

Whilst the vehicle is moving your not having due care and attention.

Vehicle stopped then as didly says gross misconduct

What do you think??

Sorry state of affairs if someone needs to drink alcohol while driving…would suggest AA & not the breakdown version

I get that feeling when delivering around Hackney.

If you mean literally while driving then technically it’s illegal, to be more precise eating or drinking while driving isn’t illegal in itself but you can get done for driving without due care and attention if the act of eating or drinking means you’re not in proper control of the vehicle.

I can’t remember anyone being done for drinking but someone has been fined for eating an apple while driving.

It would be no different to drinking a non alcoholic drink from any other can. If spotted by the authorities or a concerned member of public then I’d imagine you’d get pulled up very quickly about it even if you’re under the DD limit.

If you can’t leave it alone long enough that you can’t wait until you are having your rest then you have a problem.

Work hard and play harder, but keep those two separate.

Consuming alcohol at work is probably instant dissmisal and incredibly stupid.

But also having a cup of tea / sandwich behind the wheel is an art I’m sure we have all learned.
When the conditions are right i.e. light traffic, no coppers or youtube filmers around its quite simple to pour a drink out of a flask with your left hand whilst not taking your eyes off the road, make sure you are prepared for this in your pre-start checks.

Also when pouring said flask into cup make sure your aiming at the cup holder with a cup in it…

Practise this skill during breaks if neccesary and don’t forget to check your mirrors before taking a sip of your chosen (non alcholic) beverage.

Just get a long straw, then you’ll be hands free and cushty, driver

Can you get away with this?

They are coke cans, the op wanted alcohol mate :unamused:

You could get fired from some desk jobs for drinking on the job or even during your lunch break, let alone driving a truck. And eating and drinking at the wheel counts as not due care and attention so you could get fined if caught. If you need to drink from a can then use a straw so you don’t need to hold it up and potentially take your eye off the road.

company will probably see it in the same light as smoking in the cab i.e instant dismissal. although my old company wouldn’t as they actually had common sense.

personally i don’t think its a problem if you only have one, no different to having a can of coke. Nothing better than driving back to the yard on a friday evening with the sun shining, tunes blasting and cold beverage in hand. or so I’m told

stupid foolish and bizarre

Put the beer in an empty Coke tin or other brand.Nobody would know it had beer in it.

Too many MARY ELLENS! :sunglasses: no it’s fine, not illegal and you’d be under the limit! :grimacing: I don’t know, too many do gooders

I would really love to know the reasoning behind having to ask such a question…?

Perhaps he likes to be relaxed at the wheel. Better than being an angry stresshead ■■

Beer is a bit uncouth i think a martini would be better although making it while driving could be hazardous.
